Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader PS5 PlayStation

Having dumped several dozen additional hours since our initial review (which, on reflection, seems harsh now but was reflective of our opinion at launch), we're pretty confident in saying that Owlcat's depiction of the Warhammer 40,000 universe in Rogue Trader is just completely unrivalled. However, a wordy, turn-based CRPG was never going to reach the breakout sales success of the action-packed Space Marine 2; still, it's heartwarming to hear that the grimdark adventure has now passed a million copies sold.

Owlcat Games studio head Oleg Shpilchevskiy seemed quite pleased with the achievement, which, in turn, is quite promising; selfishly, this scribe is desperate for the series to continue: "Reaching such a milestone in one year with our third game is a sign for us that we, as developers, are working in the right direction. Together with the fantastic team at Warhammer, we were able to create the СRPG of our dreams, one set in the grimdark future of the 41st millennium, and we will do our best to bring more stories to the endless universe of Warhammer 40,000."

The developer followed up the base game with Void Shadows late last year, a generous expansion that not only incorporates a fanatical swordswoman into the party, along with the expected swathe of additional narrative content to the base game, but masterfully does so in a way that is woven throughout the central storyline. Previously, Owlcat has teased another expansion is in the works, one that will apparently introduce an Adeptus Arbites (think Judge Dredd) companion to the Lord Captain's retinue.
