Talking Point: PS5 Saves Video Clips When You Earn Trophies - Do You Leave That Feature On? 1

As is usually the case with Sony's consoles, the PS5 has many small features that some users might not even know about. One such example is the current-gen machine's ability to automatically save video clips (and screenshots) every time you earn a Trophy in a game.

This feature is enabled by default, and it means your media gallery might be stuffed with hundreds, maybe thousands of stills and short clips for every single Trophy you've unlocked.

It's something that caught out this player on the PS5 subreddit, shocked at discovering over 2,200 clips in their storage:

As the post brings up, these short videos and screenshots are harmless on their own, but if you amass a lot of them, their total file size will take up a surprising amount of space on your PS5's SSD.

If you wanted to change your console's settings, go to Captures and Broadcasts > Captures > Trophies, and you can choose which ones are automatically saved — or turn the feature off altogether.

There's of course an argument for both sides of this. In theory it's quite a nice idea to save those Trophy-earning moments so you can look back on, and share, memorable sequences in games, your displays of skill, and so on. If you have the spare storage, it's not really an issue, and allows you to take a trip down memory lane.

However, if you play a lot of games and are constantly earning Trophies (whether intending to or not), the feature could just be soaking up valuable SSD space you want to use for other things. Plus, not everyone is into Trophies, so you may simply not be interested in looking back at the times you unlocked them.

It's a small feature that's potentially quite impactful on your PS5 experience, especially if you're still rocking the default SSD.

What do you think? Do you enjoy your PS5 cataloguing all your Trophies with screenshots and videos, or is it merely a waste of space? Do you leave the feature on or have you toggled it off? Discuss in the comments section below.
