Having sold over 20 million units, it is reported that the success of Black Myth: Wukong prompted Phantom Blade Zero developer S-Game to receive additional funding to make its PS5 title, with investors keen to capitalise on the growth of video game development in China. A tweet from publishing and gaming consultant Daniel Camilo (via VGC) explained that while Phantom Blade Zero had already accrued a good amount of funding, it received another wave off the back of Black Myth: Wukong's success.
Referring to discussions with two sources, Camilo added: "The tremendous success of Wukong in China in particular signaled to many investors that AAA gaming is the new golden egg." It's claimed that even before Black Myth: Wukong released, the excitement surrounding the title prompted investment in Phantom Blade Zero and other Chinese projects.
"Finally — and I emphasize — allegedly, the studio even had to turn down investors after Wukong released, as so many came rushing to join this new wave of AAA Chinese development hype," he said.
Phantom Blade Zero is a PS5 console exclusive that will also be released on PC, though a release date isn't known yet. Earlier today it released a new trailer to mark the Year of the Snake, which has once again impressed. The footage is said to reveal "significant upgrades in visual quality — textures, models, and lighting — designed to meet true next-generation standards"
Other promising PS5 projects from Chinese developers include Lost Soul Aside, Where Winds Meet, and WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers. Are you looking forward to Phantom Blade Zero first and foremost? Let us know in the comments below.

Well at least the Chinese understand the importance of big AAA single player games.
Get them to realign Sony and it’s studios please.
Like him or hate, but what Dunkey says is very true.

Jokes aside I am very interested in most of these games, hopefully we wont have to wait too long for release dates.
Hello there fellow gamers.
This is actualy some really good news, especially after all the unfortunate layoffs that´s been plaguing this industry.
And since I am a huge fan of this type of games, is very nice to see them florish once again.
Kudos for all the great talent were seeing, not only from Chinese developers but also from Korea as well.
I do believe were going to see way more awesome games from all over Asia, bringing their style and flavor to the gaming scene, more so on console and PC.
Keep them coming, that what I say.
Cheers and happy gaming everyone
I need this game like yesterday...the PS china project hasn't missed yet
2025 game of the year
Absolutely love this mix of action-combat, God of War-like + Soulslike elements, Black Myth: Wukong and Stellar Blade being my top 2 games of 2024.
This is cool and the game does look sick. But will say overall as an industry, wish a new trend of more single player fps games would happen instead of more 3rd person action games, especially those in the souls lane.
Wish that Sony would remember their Asian origins, but it won't happen anytime soon.
Luckily sony on the board already, that's why PBZ only have ps5 version on console.
@Dalamar So what is Astrobot and Team Asobi?
As soon as the Chinese learn to make games in a second genre then we’ll really be cooking
@Oram77 I’m sure they’re talking about the brand as a whole, not just some small team in some back room office. Move PlayStation headquarters back to Japan, swap back the X and Circle button use… etc
@Oram77 one time thing. I hope I'm wrong.
N.i.c.e. black myth wukong is already a hit.now its your turn phantom blade zero.word up son
these games look amazing , also where the winds meet is another game to look forward too , and i'm pretty sure that also is a ps5 exclusive , but not 100% on that one. they are churning out game of the year quality games over there though.
@twitchtvpat where winds meet is also a phone/f2p game sadly.
I hope China devs aren't burnout with AAA games since they took years to finish.
@Dalamar A one time thing?
Heck, Sony try to acquire Kodansha, a Japanese company but some people heavily against it for whatever reason. So no, i don't think Sony forget their Asian origins.
@PuppetMaster Ghost of Yotei is american game. And giving Sony a credit for Rise of Ronin and Stellar Blade is like giving Activision a credit for Sekiro.
@Dalamar an American game that took place in Japan with Japanese protag. And i'm confidence the Japanese will loves it just like they did with Tsushima that sold 1+ million copies in Japan. Even some Japanese devs was impressed by the game and said they should be the one who make games like Tsushima.
And without Sony there wouldn't be Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. Sony not just funded and published Stellar Blade but they also helped with development. The same with Rise of the Ronin.
You can't compare with Activision since they didn't funded Sekiro nor contribute with the development.
@Dalamar
Crash Bandicoot - Naughty Dog - USA
Tomb Raider - Core Design - UK
Gran Turismo -Polyphony Digital - Japan
Spyro - Insomniac - USA
Rayman - Ubisoft - France
Still trying to understand when you say "go back to their Asian origins", but as the list above shows, even Sony during the PS1 era they had games developed all over the world.
Black myth wukong is the real goty 2024
