Astro Bot, the most celebrated platforming game in history without Super Mario in the title, has the chance to earn itself even more Game of the Year awards, with six nominations now accrued at next month's DICE Awards. The game has six nominations for the show taking place on 13th February 2025, and it's joined by other Sony efforts such as LEGO Horizon Adventures and Helldivers 2 in other categories.
Not to be confused with the EA development studio that makes Battlefield, the DICE Awards is a prestige establishment that hands out awards based on votes from its 33,000+ academy members. Astro Bot has been nominated in these six categories:
- Game of the Year
- Outstanding Achievement in Animation
- Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition
- Outstanding Technical Achievement
- Family Game of the Year
- Outstanding Achievement in Game Design
Elsewhere, Helldivers 2 is recognised with nominations in the Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Action Game of the Year, and Online Game of the Year categories while LEGO Horizon Adventures could also pick up an award for its Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction. You can view the full list of nominees through the link.
Astro Bot has already earned 110 Game of the Year awards, which is almost three times as many as any other game released last year. According to this website, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has 38 and then Balatro has scooped up 28. We joined other critics in awarding Astro Bot our Game of the Year gong a few weeks ago.

Great to see, hopefully there's a sequel in the works or some substantial DLC. Will be hard to follow up this though, will need to ditch the nostalgia trip going forward as that will only work for so long.
They really deserve the music award. Currently listening to it while working (on Spotify). What a soundtrack 😊
Are all these plaudits turning into sales though? I truly hope so because if a game deserves it it’s this one

@Skynet04 Wow, you have some nerve calling this a turd.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree mate, the next game can't be another nostalgia trip so I am keen to see where they go with it. That said the first VR game wasn't overly nostalgic so I have confidence. Definitely one of the best if not the best platformer outside of Mario for me.
ASTRO BOT SWEEP!!!!
Good. Game of the generation.
@Mostik @UltimateOtaku91 I think its the nostalgia that improved things. I liked Astrobot rescue mission but i liked Astros playroom more and Astrobot is more of that
wonder if people will go back and play the other 4 Astrobot games i know i did
@trev666 I replay play Astro's Playroom often but never the others because they require stupidly expensive peripherals that to be honest I don't really want. I've heard Rescue Mission is incredible but I'm not interested in VR to spend the money on the headset (I have tired it my Niece and Nephew have an oculus I thought it was kinda neat for a little while but overall not for me)

@trev666 No doubt buddy, I have every confidence they can reproduce the form with another game but I do hope they make another VR game as I loved Rescue Mission!
I'm really enjoying Lego Horizon. I'm at awe how every single thing is made of Lego. I also find the combat to be more enjoyable that your standard Lego game. Not the greatest game in the world but perfectly serviceable.
@Keyblade-Dan i paid £40 on facebook for the whole psvr setup so i could play the first 3 Astro games as the first 2 are free and sony gave away astrobot rescue mission to everyone.
after playing through a bunch of VR games i then sold it for £40
