I do love a bit of authentic voice acting in these sorts of games. Perfectly happy to use subs. ‘Italian’ accented English specifically is incredibly funny though. Pretty sure ‘Salute Ser Ezio, shall we take a look at the list’ is burned into my brain.

I always played the Metro games in Russian. That's just the way it oughta be, so I feel like I will definitely dip into the Sicilian for this one

The Mafia games are underrated pleasures of mine. Even if they don’t quite meet GOTY tier, they’re always memorable and gripping. Mafia 3 baking systemic racism into its open word mechanics was one of the ballsiest thing I’ve seen devs attempt in a game.

As for authenticity, I remember there was controversy here in Ireland because helping the Irish mob boss deliver car bombs to the IRA was a mission. They certainly do their homework at Hangar 13.

@DiggleDog honestly although the gameplay isn't amazing, the story and performances in Mafia 3 are some of the best in gaming. If they can pair that level of storytelling with fantastic gameplay it has potential to be a 10/10

I would even prefer if games would only include an original dub, to reduce the localisation costs. But then it should be very authentic, e.g. A Plague Tale in 15th century Provence dialect. And subtitles should be readable, i.e. much larger than they are today in most games.

My brother from another mother has a big Italian family on his mom's side. He's closing in on 50, but he still plays games. I'm thinking this will make a great gift for him.

Hopefully the lip synching is on point. I played Ghost of Tsushima in Japanese on PS5 and never went back to English

Sicilian is so rich and expressive, if it is well done it could be a real plus for the game 🤌🏻🤌🏻

@zhoont Ive always wanted to do that but you miss out on so many conversations especially in Exodus when sneaking around that I couldn’t do it.

@IamJT I wouldn’t blame anybody for chickening out of that particular conflict even as someone woken up every July by nutters in bowler hats who can barely play the pipes. I mean at that point you might as well set a game in Gaza.

That's really cool that they are putting forth the effort on doing that! I'll stick to English myself though. I don't really get a better experience from playing in a different language like some folks do. To myself it's more authentic in my head to play in my native language since I understand what is being said more naturally as opposed to reading a subtitle to understand what's happening.

I don't mind it if there isn't a choice. I've played and love all the Yakuza games after all for example. Just a preference is all.

Having to read subtitles while playing a game is not the same as watching a subbed movie

Yeah I'd be up for that. I did the same with Metro in Russian. The only problem is that sometimes I miss some subtitles when I'm focused on the shooting, during an action-heavy sequence.

I might. Metro was different, the writer was heavily engaged with the Russian voice actors, and according to the creators of Metro, is the true way to play the game. but they had ENGLISH DUBS also. Ghost of Tsushimas animations didn’t match the English, it was clearly meant to be played in Japanese, but they had ENGLISH DUBS. This game however has SICILIAN DUBS for a game originally meant to be played in English. I’ll wait and see, but probably English for me on this one since it’s the other way around here.

Hell yeah. So hyped about it.

I love the Mafia games. I also hoping for a 60fps for the ‘new’ part 1 so the wait for this game won’t be so long. 😊

@zhoont oh man the voice acting in that game is so bad. Even in Russian it was distractingly bad. Otherwise great games though

Edit: I do hope the "checkpoint dev" of this game has found some happiness because those were horrible and probably not play tested!
