Rise of the Ronin has once again done reasonably well for itself in the latest Japanese sales charts. The current PS5 exclusive launched a few weeks back, but unlike fellow action RPG Dragon's Dogma 2, it's been able to stick in the top ten since its release. It sold an additional 12,000 copies at retail, bringing its physical total up to 97,000 sales.
Don't get us wrong, it's nothing amazing, but it's just nice to see some PlayStation software hanging around charts that are so often utterly dominated by Nintendo Switch titles. We're starting to wonder how long it'll be able to stay up there.
Meanwhile, the PS5 is still on the road to reaching 6 million units, which will be something of a landmark for the current-gen system as it continues to outpace the PS4.

Nice, I need to finish DD2 and eiyuden chronicle then I will hop on this
Absolutely loving my time with it. Hopefully I’ll finish it this weekend and get back to Rebirth!
Princess Peach Showtime looks like a GOTY. AND the three Switch versions sold 28,190 more units than all the other systems combined.
Not making any kind of point other than Nintendo is still Ichiban in Japan
Out of the latest big 3 ie- rebirth/ronin/dogma I’m tempted by Ronin the most. Is this wise?
That's good to know. I almost cancelled my pre order of this game after reading some reviews, including one from this website, but I'm glad i chose this game over DD2.
It seems like games set in feudal japan do quite well over there. Ghost of Tsushima did OK too and got some lip service from japanese devs
I went with DD2. Zero regrets. I'll just wait for Ghost of Tsushima 2.
When I finish/get fed-up/annoyed with DD2 I’ll probably pick this up. Hopefully the price will have come down a bit by then.
@Nightcrawler71
I got fed up and annoyed and disappointed with DD2.
It's very telling that it's not in the top 10 anymore. Very mixed word of mouth I guess. Very strange release
Glad to see Rise of the Ronin doing well. I'm having a blast with it and trying to finish it before April 26.
I have a feeling that it has to do with those clips I've seen online getting traction. I remember seeing one video of someone cosplaying as Vegeta in-gamenand started fist fighting with flames coming out of his hands. That alone convinced me on one day buying this game on a sale.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Yorozayu I'm also working on getting it done by the end of the weekend. I'm in the middle of the last mission on Edo. Hope to have it beat by tomorrow night, so I can start another game on the backlog.
@Mikey856 that’s going to be highly objective depending on who answers that question. I’m going to say it is a wise choice as FF7 Rebirth was my most anticipated game for ‘24, it got completely sidelined by RotR when that launched.
While RotR may not be the best looking game, its combat is what you’d expect of Team Ninja, intense and really feeling like your attacks have weight behind them and all the more natural when you behead or dismember your enemies. Exploring to me feels more like GoT in terms of open world. The story is nothing to write home about, it’s been told before as it’s historical and there are story points of the game that overlap with LaD Ishin!, but the majority of the characters are likeable regardless of what faction you may side with.
It’s not as bloated as Rebirth either. So there’s that if you don’t want a game that feels like it’s dragging on.
I am in no way bashing Rebirth, I have loved my time with it since I’ve had it, it’s just that I enjoy RotR more.
Pushsqaure really wants this game to fail. Do you really need to include 'Don't get us wrong, it's nothing amazing?'
@mrbone They keep doing it in every article. Not surprising since gamers have been more positive overall towards ROTR and their 6/10 was stupidly harsh considering the high praise they gave DD2 despite also having performance flaws and failing to do anything new in the 10 years since Dark Arisen. Every negative DD2 article (about MTs etc) also has them praising the game.
Ronin is not perfect but as Stephanie Sterling's review put it: it actually likes its players unlike DD2.
@mrbone Yeah and keep in mind, unlike DD2, this game is actually reviewed well among players. With DD2, after the dust had settled towards its MTX and performance, I'm still seeing people bash the game for its open world and repetitive enemies. DD2 I refunded on PC after its issues. I'll get in on sale maybe in a year when they've finally fixed it.
@Splat Is Ghost of Tsushima even that good? Halo Infinite scored 87 on Metacritic so that game is better according to critics. Also just another reason why I'm not trusting critic scores either.
The game is so awesome and fun to play! I already finished it a while back, also got the Platinum Trophy and now I'm leveling up, collecting better equipment, unlocking different paths in the story so i can experience everything, playing in MIDNIGHT Difficulty. 170 hours so far!
