They really do go hand in hand at this point, don't they? Where there's an upcoming PlayStation Showcase, the internet is littered with fake leaks in the days leading up to it. It happened in the lead-up to the 2021 event, and tweets claiming to have the complete rundown of Wednesday's livestream are popping up again. These are honestly just a bit of a laugh at this point — we don't think anyone really believes them anymore — so what do we apparently have in store this year?
Well, this first fake leak is a bit of a special edition as it attempts to give off the impression it's a burner account with just three tweets to its name. That is despite the fact the profile was set up in July 2022. Nevertheless, A vg fan must have an uncle working at PlayStation as they've managed to get their hands on a full list of the show, complete with the developers and exclusivity status attached. Just ignore the inaccuracies and grammatical mistakes for now.
The fake leak says The Last of Us Factions will be in attendance and is "ready to be launched this year", and the Twisted Metal reboot will also be there alongside Capcom title Pragmata. Those three games appearing all seems reasonable, but then the poster says the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake will have "Subsequent" at the end of the name and the now officially confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 is actually dropping the "1" from the title just days later. Unlucky, A vg fan, you were so close!
Elsewhere, Team Asobi is apparently making a PSVR2 exclusive called Astro's Conquest, the recently acquired Firewalk Studios is making a Killzone game, and the new IP from Santa Monica Studio is named Darkside. What's now our favourite prediction is Ghost of Kamakura, a sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, which has just been pretty much ruled out by Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb. Better luck next time, A vg fan.
Having received 13,000 views so far, it's funny to see how these fake leaks can spread so quicky. Should more appear in the coming days, we'll be sure to have a comedic poke at them and debunk anything for you.
