Here’s a little Easter egg to brighten your bunny day weekend: Zelda-like adventure game Anodyne is now free with PS Plus Extra, despite no prior communication from Sony. It’s worth noting that this title was previously part of the PS Now catalogue, before being promptly removed when the Japanese giant rejigged its subscription tiers. Presumably, it renegotiated with the developer to add it back.
“Inspired by old-school 16-bit adventure classics, take part in a deep and wonderful journey exploring a large over world and many quirky, challenging and fun dungeons to find out what awaits you in Young's subconscious,” the official blurb explains. The game’s heavily inspired by titles like A Link to the Past, so if you’re in the mood for some old-school Nintendo action, give it a go.

This is actually quite a good little game, I completed it a while back. Some of the trophies were a bit buggy though so if you care about that stuff I'd advise making a few separate saves 👍
Ya know, I had Now for a year or two, and I'd never even heard of this game. I'm always in the mood for a retro game, so I'll check this out more or less entirely based on this article!

Is it for Extra only or can Premium play it?
@KnightRider1982 The tiers of Plus get more comprehensive the higher they are. Short answer: yes you can play it.
Plus Essential gets all the perks of Plus prior to the merge with Now, including cloud saving and 3 free monthly games to keep for as long as the subscription is active.
Plus Extra gets all the perks of Essential as well as access to a selection of native PS4 and PS5 games to download to your console.
Plus Premium gets access to everything in Essential and Extra as well as remasters, remakes and PS3 games, and the ability to stream everything in both the Premium and Extra tiers, save for native PS5 games (though the PS4 versions of those games where available are fine to stream).

@KnightRider1982 premium is the top tier. If you have premium you have literally every game and feature currently on plus.

@zebric21 they're still stuck 2 years in the past comparing the old PsNow to GamePass (when GP was almost free using some trick). They never seem to have moved past that era.

I do appreciate you guys are stuck w/ the stupid*SS naming system Sony stuck you with, and all the writers here have been doing a very good job of late reporting accurately on this mess, but when I read I’m getting a new game in the title only to find out I’m not in the article it’s annoying. 😝
On the bright side, I promise to never complain about people not using “Essential” for PS+ Essential, b/c that’s just stupid.😉

@RIGGOR_MORTIS Precisely the same logic that everyone on team green uses every time they say they played Halo for free via Game Pass. I think as far as just verbalizing it is concerned, it's easier to say "free" than it is to say "available to rent indefinitely for £7.99 to £10.99 per month". Might not be literally correct, but it's a shorthand that many people will know.
@rjejr I kinda agree with you and kinda not. I don't think the words they use as names are bad per se, but perhaps more like they could drop the word Plus from the name and it might just be simpler to figure out the tiers. PlayStation Essential, PlayStation Extra and PlayStation Premium for example, though those don't quite roll off the tongue as well.
@BeerIsAwesome I came up w/ something similar last month when I was complaining about the names then. And ever since before this article I've noticed the PS staff have been doing a really good job of putting the correct names in the titles as they should and I do appreciate.

I think I got the contents wrong though which wasn't exactly helping my case. 😂 But I stand by PS+ Essential being the worse offender b/c nobody wants to write, read or say all of that. And nobody has 3 tiers of service, so really PS+ and then PS+ Extra should have been enough, roll the premium stuff into Extra. Though I suppose Xbox kind of has 3 tiers now w/ Gold for online, Gamepass for Xbox and PC and Gamepass Ultimate for both. Now that's almost as bad as this mess.

@rjejr No, I knew exactly what you meant. I think it may benefit "writing them down" to work with something a bit more shorthand. But you'd then have Plus E, E and P, which is of course not helpful. And since every subscription service is called "Plus" (Apple TV, Paramount, Disney, Discovery, etc.) you either have to drop the Plus to be different, or work with it. The problem is, I can't think of any vaguely descriptive alternatives off the top of my head. Somehow I don't think Plus, Plus with PS4 and PS5 games, and Plus with streaming works quite as well as Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. 😅
Speaking of Game Pass, Plus has three tiers, and each has all the benefits of the tiers beneath it. Game Pass for console and Game Pass for PC don't have Gold. PC because it doesn't need it, and console because who knows, yet PC has EA Play, but console doesn't. And if you want everything everywhere (all at once) then Ultimate is the way to go. Unless of course you're a PC-only gamer, in which case the only benefit you'd be getting is streaming out of that. It's all as complicated as you said!

Another ps1 game
@BeerIsAwesome Everything ending in "+" has bothered me for years now but at least Sony was 1 of the early ones and it made sense at the time b/c it actually was "plus" something, especially on PS3 when online was free. Then you have services like "ESPN+" which I've always referred to as ESPN- (minus) b/c you are paying for ESPN "plus" but you aren't actually getting ESPN., you need to sign up for that separately. I've had ESPN+ w/o ESPN before and it's a stupid name and service. It's a bit better now but when it launched it had almost nothing for a service w/ a + in it's name.
Of course then you get stupid decisions, like naming HBO Max and Discovery+ just "Max", which better have the Grinch's dog as it's mascot logo or why even bother.
@rjejr I can't say who came first out of all of the modern subscriptions, be it LoveFilm (now Prime Video), Netflix or PS Plus, but I can say that a decade or so ago we were a little more creative with our names than we are now. Unfortunately, they deliberately make things like ESPN+ confusing just to price gouge you, but I hate to bring out the cynic in me.
