Sony’s systems could be weeks away from getting an actual Mario Kart rival. Well, probably not – no number of Blue Shells will slow Nintendo’s evergreen arcade racing titan, but Disney Speedstorm does at least look like a lot of fun. Following the same release model as the Animal Crossing-esque Disney Dreamlight Valley, developer Gameloft is lining up paid Early Access from 18th April.

So, what’s the play? Well, there are three Founders Packs available, each including access to the full game and a bunch of in-game content to boot. For the sake of convenience, we’ve outlined your options below:

Standard Founder’s Pack ($29.99/£24.99)

  • Early Access to Disney Speedstorm
  • 2 Racers unlocked
  • Additional racer unlock of your choice
  • 4,000 Tokens
  • 2 Golden Pass Credits
  • 3 Exclusive racing suits and livery
  • Exclusive Founder’s Motto and Avatar

Deluxe Founder’s Pack ($49.99/£39.99)

  • Early Access to Disney Speedstorm
  • 2 Racers unlocked
  • Additional racer unlock of your choice
  • 4,000 Tokens
  • 2 Golden Pass Credits
  • 3 Exclusive racing suits and livery
  • Exclusive Founder’s Motto and Avatar

Ultimate Founder’s Pack ($69.99/£54.99)

  • Early Access to Disney Speedstorm
  • 5 Racers unlocked
  • Additional racer unlock of your choice
  • 12,000 Tokens
  • 3 Golden Pass Credits
  • 6 Exclusive racing suits and livery
  • Exclusive Founder’s Motto and Avatar
  • Kart parts for Donald

If you pre-order any of the Founder’s Packs, you’ll also unlock a couple of bonus cosmetics for Donald Duck, including a Toontech Kart Livery and Early Bird racing suit. For the additional racer unlocks, you can choose from one of the following: Baloo, Belle, the Beast, Elizabeth Swann, Shang, or Mowgli. And, of course, this is a live service game, so expect it to expand with new characters, karts, and race courses over time.

Personally, we’re not massively fond of the overly serious art style – we reckon something a little more colourful would have suited the Disney theme better. But the gameplay does look good, and it certainly has the potential to fill the gaping kart racer void on PS5 and PS4.
