If you’re a PlayStation-only owner, then you’re going to want big things from The Crew Motorfest, officially announced by Ubisoft for PS5 and PS4 earlier today. Due out in 2023, the open world arcade racer will return to the series’ roots, meaning the aquatic and aerial disciplines from its predecessor appear to be out. This time the focus is on four wheels, although there’ll be plenty of variety: from mudrunners to sports car, there’s lots to look forward to. Could PS5 and PS4 have a Forza Horizon rival at last?

“The Crew Motorfest has settled down in one of the most breath-taking and vibrant places on Earth: the island of O‘ahu in the Hawaiian archipelago,” the press release teases. “This is the perfect playground for players to have fun together in with their vehicles: racing through the city streets of Honolulu, going down the ashy volcano slopes, adventuring deep in the lush rainforest, drifting along the curvy mountain roads, or just chilling on the sunny beach.”

An Insider Program will open from 1st February, and you can register your interest through here. “This closed test, split into different phases, will help the development team gather feedback to ensure an optimal player experience at launch and beyond,” the blurb explains. “The first phase of the Insider Program will be limited to PC in order to allow for quick iterations. During the final phases, this closed test will open up to consoles.”

There’s no firm release date right now, but as alluded to, the title’s due out later this year – and will only expand beyond launch. “Motorfest will allow car lovers to fulfil their ultimate action driving bucket list through a series of tailor-made races, themed events, and other unique challenges,” the French publisher says. “Whatever your favourite car style, The Crew Motorfest has something for everyone.”

We’re a big fan of bright and breezy arcade racers, but they’ve been in frighteningly short supply on the PS5 and PS4. Here's hoping this one scratches that itch once and for all.
