Final Fantasy 16 Dog

Final Fantasy XVI may not have party members in the more traditional sense, but playable character Clive can be joined in battle by certain allies throughout his adventures. It sounds like his humanoid teammates will come and go depending on the story, but one trusty companion will be by his side more often than not, apparently.

That companion is none other than a loyal hound named Torgal. The large dog was revealed in the title's latest trailer, which shows Torgal aiding Clive in combat, and, of course, being petted by the protagonist.

Square Enix says that not only will Torgal chase down enemies, he'll also "mend Clive’s wounds" — so he's a bit of a healer. What's more, if you can "time Clive's orders right", you can combine the duo's attacks. In other words, you can actually give commands to Torgal — something that can't be done with Clive's other party members.

Here's a bit more on Torgal as a character: "Another outcast from the Northern Territories taken in by House Rosfield, Torgal was found alone in a snowfield during one of Archduke Elwin’s expeditions to the freezing north, and gifted to his sons upon his return. After somehow surviving the disaster that nearly ended the Rosfield line, he was reunited with Clive over a decade later, and now serves his master with the same fierce loyalty he did when he was but a pup."
