Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D Remake News

The awkwardly named Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake was announced back in May 2021 at a dedicated Dragon Quest event, and we've seen absolutely nothing of the project since. Its reveal trailer looked fantastic, with the reworked visuals breathing a whole new kind of life into the classic RPG, and so we've been patiently waiting on more news ever since.

Fortunately, it sounds like Square Enix has something planned for the relatively near future. In a new Famitsu interview with Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii — as translated by Nintendo Everything — the legendary developer says, "We’re working hard on Dragon Quest XII and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake! I can’t say much yet, but we might be able to deliver more news on DQIII soon. We’re grateful that people are putting big expectations on DQIII too."

Hopefully "soon" actually means soon, and not this time next year. Still, it's good to know that the project's ticking along, even if we're well overdue another peek.
