Resident Evil Village Rose Winters Capcom 1

To be fair, not even the most committed Resident Evil fan would put protagonist Ethan Winters on par with the likes of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Perhaps we don’t have quite the same connection with the character because both his adventures, Resident Evil VII: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, have been first-person – and that may change when the latter’s new third-person perspective launches.

Either way, the character’s storyline is coming to a conclusion. Speaking with IGN Japan, director Kento Kinoshita said that the upcoming Shadows of Rose expansion – which stars Ethan’s daughter – will “conclude the Winters family saga”. Now, when it comes to Resident Evil you obviously can’t rule out anything – but it seems the plan is to wrap things up for now. It means the next fresh entry in the franchise could feature a familiar face – or a new one entirely.

Obviously, we’ll be getting Resident Evil 4’s remake before then, and Resident Evil Village is getting a full-scale PSVR2 adaptation to boot. It means Capcom has its hands full, and therefore it has nothing to share on the future of the series right now. The good news is that Shadows of Rose is sounding like a must-own expansion, and you can of course read our impressions of the release through here from a recent preview event.
