Tekken 8 Gameplay

Sony's latest State of Play started with one hell of a bang, didn't it? Tekken 8 right out of the gate, just like that! And what a trailer it was. Clearly meant to emphasise the leap in graphical quality from the now noticeably aged Tekken 7, Bandai Namco says that the footage is taken from the game's story mode, which explains the cinematic camera angles and dramatic pacing.

But to be clear, this isn't a cutscene. Tekken godfather Katsuhiro Harada confirms via the PlayStation Blog that the trailer is made up of is in-game footage, captured directly from a PS5 at 60 frames-per-second. "All the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game," he writes.

"For our first announcement, we chose to focus on the content that showcases the quality of this game on PS5," Harada explains.

Needless to say, Tekken 8 is shaping up to be a gorgeous fighting game. Together with Street Fighter 6, which has also looked superb up until now, the genre's future is looking very bright indeed.
