EA has revealed a new Battlefield game that focuses on story is currently in development at Ridgeline Games. Headed up by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, this is a new team at EA that is "composed of industry veterans from around the world". The developer will start work on stories "that are only possible within the Battlefield universe". A diverse team of individuals and a strong work-life balance are said to be two of its core priorities.

In a press release, Battlefield franchise head Vince Zampella said EA is continuing to invest in the series through new talent and perspectives. "With Marcus and his team at Ridgeline Games joining the world-class global team we have already in place, Battlefield is in the strongest position to succeed."

The news comes after the series' latest instalment, Battlefield 2042, skipped a single player campaign. Past entries like Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, and Battlefield Hardline all had one. However, the Battlefield: Bad Company sub-series is EA DICE's best attempt at a single player campaign to date.

Marcus Lehto, game director and head of the studio, said: "It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series."
