Elden Ring PS5 PS4

Bandai Namco has confirmed in its latest sales report that Elden Ring has sold 16.6 million copies as of June 2022. Its huge success means "the segment profit of the digital business" has "increased significantly". Elden Ring had already outsold Demon's Souls, every single Dark Souls entry, Bloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice just a few weeks after launch, but this new sales landmark pushes it even further into the realm of a mega-hit that truly broke into the mainstream.

For context (provided by Ars Technica), the latest official sales stats put Dark Souls III at 10 million copies sold. The original Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice then each sit at around five million units. At the rate Elden Ring is selling, it could easily surpass the 27 million total sales of the entire Dark Souls series, which was amassed over nearly 10 years.

It's an astounding achievement for a game from a Japanese developer that used to dabble in King's Field and Armored Core — a franchise it's actually rumoured to be returning to.
