Each year in the middle of summer, Japanese publisher and developer Nippon Ichi Software (NIS for short) sends out a greetings card that typically teases an upcoming title. As posted on Twitter by @boneta_hone, 2022's card features what looks like some kind of demon (or perhaps deity-like figure) holding a sword while standing on a rooftop. A building that resembles a traditional Japanese castle is in the background, along with two less defined characters.

It's definitely got that NIS art style to it, but what game could it be teasing? As you'd expect, a lot of fans have immediately jumped on the possibility that it could be Disgaea 7. However, the last game in the strategy RPG series, Disgaea 6, is less than two years old — it first launched in January 2021. You could argue that the timing isn't quite right.

A new IP, perhaps? It's certainly far from impossible, given NIS' creative output over the years. We'll just have to wait and see!

What do you think this teaser is for? Would you welcome a new Disgaea, or do you want something new? Don't call upon your underworld army just yet in the comments section below.
