Here's why the A Plague Tale: Requiem release date wasn't announced yesterday: the reveal will actually take place on 23rd June 2022 in a short Focus Showcase. The official date will be accompanied by an "extended gameplay trailer" — presumably building off of what we saw yesterday — at 5pm BST / 9am PT / 12pm ET on the day. You can watch the announcement on YouTube.
"For this direct sequel, we wanted for the player to experience a change of scenery, and many other locations were considered before deciding to set the game in France once again, lead writer Sébastien Renard explained in an Xbox Wire post. "The southern parts of the country will be explored this time, and it will allow for a fresh visual experience."
This new setting is said to be more colourful and vibrant, with puzzle and combat mechanics that make sense for the environment. Requiem will have medieval dyeries and shipping harbours to explore, for example. "This was inspired from our collaboration with Roxane. Her input was precious to find the right ideas, and she suggested details which truly heightened the game’s visual impact: having players go through a dyery means enriching the historical context while working on adding colorful details that make sense in the 14th century."
We'll reconvene next week, then, for the official release date announcement. A Plague Tale: Requiem is still expected to release in 2022 for PS5.
