You’ll have to wait a while longer for The Last of Us television show, as it unfortunately won’t air this year. The Hollywood Reporter published 20 questions with HBO Max programming chief Casey Bloys, and he remarks that the show is “shooting right now in Canada” and that “we haven’t announced an air date yet”. He added: “It’s not 2022.”
Filming started last summer, but with the show still being shot, obviously a release date this year always sounded optimistic. Remember, it’s still early days for PlayStation Productions, with the Uncharted movie being its first foray, so there’ll be plenty of time to build up to this. We imagine we will see a trailer at some point before the year is over, but you’re going to have to be patient and wait for the series in its entirety.
Kinda a bummer. But oh well. I think it will be worth the wait. Interesting to see how this affects Naught Dogs release schedule. Surely there going to want to set the remake relatively close to the show.
Was there an expectation for 2022?...I mean, I think they're still in the middle of shooting their scenes
Dang. Not even remotely surprised, but dang.
No remake this year, maybe we get fractions
honestly I’m happy they aren’t trying to rush it. as a fan of the games that’s always one’s worry. when a major studio try’s to finish production so fast that the end result comes out terrible for new viewers and fans alike. let’s see when this year we get a trailer of what is in store ! -first time user here on pushsquare
They should definitely take their time. I'm not sad or whatever. I just want them to do the games justice while doing their own thing. Adaptations are tricky, and I'm usually not a fan. But at the end of the day, I'm a fanboy...
I’m glad they’re not rushing it too. I have pretty high hopes for this show. Maybe we’ll at least get a trailer and a 2023 release date later this year.
HBO seems to like taking it's time, see last seasons of Sopranos and GoT. Feels like I've been waiting awhile for Westworld.
Hard growing up w/ 26 episodes per year and now watching like 8 a year if you're lucky.😝
@uptownsoul literally says above they're still shooting
That's probably a good thing. The show is probably going to be as depressing as the games are... and we really don't need more depressive content these days.
I figured Late 2022 was likely, bit bummed out by this news as I'm really looking forward to this, but oh well I can wait til 2023, hopefully I'm still alive by then LOL.

The first game and its DLC told the story perfectly: beginning, middle and end .
@OMGitsLiamT fair enough...then this article literally didn't need to be written since 2022 was never expected
This hurts my heart D:
@uptownsoul well Push Square did report that they were nearly finished shooting last November. If it's a show they want to do multiple seasons, they can't really take longer than a year for post-production unless they want to make cancel/renew decisions without actually airing it or canceling in the middle of production of the next season.
@Milktastrophe well Push Square was clearly wrong in their previous reporting
I reckon we'll get a teaser trailer on Outbreak Day in September.
If they finished filming say next month for example they would have time for a late 2022 release for example. So the 2022 release was plausible but not so much anymore. I'd prefer they take their time.
@PegasusActual93 plausible...sure. but nobody should have been expecting it
Not like I was going to watch this woke show
Have zero hype for this. Might as well be 2025.
I never expected this to premiere in 2022, so no harm done imo.
Earliest it was ever going to be was xmas 2022, as they're still shooting. 2023 is no surprise.
Oh my God who the hell cares? We didn't ask for a movie or show of Last of US and we sure as hell didn't need Uncharted the movie. Ugh!
