Psychonauts 2

The excellent Psychonauts 2 has been treated to an update that improves the title's resolution and stability when played on a PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. The patch note reads: "Improve PS4 version's resolution and stability on PS5." It does not look like the PlayStation community has discovered exactly what resolution the game now runs at on Sony's current-gen console, but we'll update this article once we learn more.

Alongside the PS5 specific patch are some big quality of life improvements that will help you mop up all collectibles as well as unlock any combat-related Trophies. Once you've finished the game, a new filter called the Otto-Spot Filter can be purchased at any Otto-Matic for 75 psitanium, and it highlights nearby collectibles in the environment. "Items like cards and Psi-Challenge Markers gain an extra outline and the filter shifts to a black and white view of the world while leaving all nearby figments bright and colorful. You'll even be able to see them through pieces of the environment."

The fast travel UI will now also tell you if you've found every collectible in a specific area on the map, narrowing down your search for figments and cards.

Another new feature is an additional seisometer that houses random combat challenges that can be repeated over and over again. This is where you'll unlock any remaining Trophies related to combat, and it's yours to interact with after completing Gisu's side quest. "This final psychoseimometer features all enemies in one easy to find location in a variety of arrangements that will offer plenty of chances to bash panic attacks or show those enablers who's boss."

Psychonauts 2 was already a wonderful title when played on PS5 via backwards compatibility, but now the experience will take advantage of the new hardware to some degree. Does this convince you to pick up the game? Let us know in the comments below.
