Those who are fed up with waiting for Persona 6 should take note of Monark, a new JRPG from developer FuRyu, which is comprised of staff members who previously worked at Atlus. While it doesn't seem to have quite the same budget as a Shin Megami Tensei entry, the latest trailer introduces some of the game's characters. There's the game's protagonist, who is literally named "Protagonist", Nozomi Hinata, Ryotaro Date, Shinya Yuda, and Kokoro Surugadai.
The game's out for PlayStation 5 and PS4 in early 2022, and poses the question: "Who will stand by you in the face of madness? Meet your allies in MONARK, and be sure to keep them close as you traverse between the real world and the warped reaches of the Otherworld!"
Does Monark take your fancy? Await your turn in the comments below.

Excited for this as a fan of shin megami tensei and persona, hopefully it has the same level of storytelling as persona.
wow first iv heard, love SMG games, this is a welcome surprise!!
Thanks for reminding me that I'm waiting for Persona 6 lol. This looks interesting. Not sure if the animation style can capture the kind of character emotion that Persona does. But will keep tabs.
nah. looks a bit generic and cack.
I generally go for these types of games but, well, the art and character design is so uninspired. It’s no Persona, or even Blue Reflection. It’s not even a Tokyo Xanadu or Trails of a Cold Steel.
@thefourfoldroot agreed, I very nearly mentioned "looks like it's trying to be Blue Reflection" in there too. A game I should get back into...traded it in long ago.
@shadow2k
I never got around to it so never traded it in luckily. I say luckily because it’s now at £25 trade in value, which is more than twice what I bought it for!
So Persona meets Silent Hill? With a required dose of demons.
Anime games need to be more than generic for me to care about them. I'm kind of sick of them.
And no, I don't mean every eastern game, just ones that rely heavily on being an anime to get sales.
Honestly, nothing I've seen yet has really gotten me excited. Doubt Monark would be on my radar at all without the SMT connection. I'll wait and see, maybe I'll come around.
Looks like a PS2 game who had an HD remake for PS3
Woof... hopefully that is the Switch version and they still working on the PS5/PC one.
Same strange trend from Japan. Make a Windows version but skip the Xbox. Makes no sense to me.
I don't get all of the negative comments, game still looks interesting to me.
@thefourfoldroot that's actually why I took my copy to CEX, it was worth COIN. Regret that now. I may just acquire the digital release, prevent myself from trading in again haha.
@Royalblues agreed, there are far too many quickly-churned-out, probably made in Unity games that use this aesthetic and turn out to have rubbish actual content like gameplay or systems.
Overall design/colour scheme and feel has Mr thinking of Caligula Effect?
At the very least it'll be interesting to check out.
