Sony has uploaded a second story trailer for Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut — but don't expect any new footage. This is the same trailer that was released earlier, except it's got Japanese voices with English subtitles. The primary goal here is to highlight the new Japanese lip sync, which is exclusive to the Director's Cut. Given that we're paying a premium for this feature, it better be good!
For those who might not know, the original Ghost of Tsushima also featured a Japanese voice option — but all of the characters' mouths were synced to their English dialogue. As such, playing in Japanese could often lead to some noticeably wonky lip syncing. This should be remedied in Director's Cut.

This game is much better in Japanese voice.
Still not sure how it needs PS5's power just to do a different lip sync but hey, looks nice
I’ll probably play with this option. I watch 99% of anime or J-drama subbed so this just seems like it would fit the setting too.
Never thought this would be possible, what an age we live in!
I'll play the expansion in English. But whenever I get around to New Game Plus for the entire game I will likely use Japanese voices with the Kurosowa mode for the full effect.
I guess I'll wait to play this on PS5, if I ever get one. Bad lip syncing drives me nuts, but this game just feels like it should be played in Japanese.
@Voltan It's because the PS5 has the power required to render cutscenes in real time allowing movement to directly match the live audio, whereas on PS4 the video and audio tracks are produced separately and matched as closely as that allows. Pretty cool stuff.
@Voltan some of the cutscenes were pre-rendered on PS4 while on PS5 they are live rendered.
Really can't wait to get this directors cut once I get my hands on a ps5. Also started watching Anime for the first time and can't believe I ignored it for this long. Excited to see Japanese lip-sync in work.
@Reeneman I didn’t know they were pre-rendered. Makes sense, thanks.
Apparently, it needs to be reiterated that whining about upgrades not being free is pure entitled butthurt. The labor that goes into producing upgrades needs to be compensated.
It also bears pointing out that without gamers actually paying for content (including upgraded content), this site and the jobs of those working here probably wouldn't exist.
@mrtennis1990 Welcome to the club! What anime have you checked out so far?
Here's my anime list if you need some recommendations: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/KidBoruto&sclick=1
How many still think the lipsync is worth keeping off the PS4 version to charge £10 extra for on the ps5 version? If they sold the lipsync separate for a tenner would you be buying it?
@KidBoruto really appreciate that list! I just finished Neon Genesis and my goodness what a quality series. Just about to start Demon Slayer and Erased this weekend.
@mrtennis1990 Neon Genesis is amazing! Be sure to also check out Neon Genesis Death & Rebirth, End of Evangelion, and the "Rebuild films".
Erased and Demon Slayer are on my plan to watch list, keep hearing great things about both.
This will be my preference in playing the game as it'll feel much more authentic. Japanese language version with subs all the way for me...
@KidBoruto will definitely check them out!
