Update: It has been confirmed in a new trailer that Aliens: Fireteam Elite will indeed launch for both PlayStation 5 and PS4 on 24th August 2021. The news beat also reveals the title tweak and a new trailer, which you can watch above.

Original story: Cold Iron Studios hasn't made the announcement just yet, but co-op shooter Aliens: Fireteam appears to be prepping for a PlayStation 5 and PS4 launch on 24th August 2021. That is if a pre-order listing from Best Buy is to be believed, which prices the title at $39.99. Interestingly, the page also adds the word "Elite" onto the end of the title, suggesting a minor name change is also in order. The new box art for physical copies also dons the new title, so we think this is all pretty legitimate.

If the reveal of Aliens: Fireteam happened to pass you by, here's 25 minutes of gameplay action. This will be a third-person shooter packed full of classes with different roles and various Xenomorph types to gun down. Basically the opposite of Alien: Isolation, then — it's very much run and gun chaos. The co-op feature is open to up to three players online, with more than 30 weapons and over 70 mods and weapon attachments to keep you occupied. "Play a pivotal role in the epic events that occur 23 years after the original Alien trilogy as a Colonial Marine stationed aboard the USS Endeavor, battling terrifying Xenomorph threats", promotional material reads.
