Sony's been doing pretty well lately with the software lined up for PlayStation Plus and PS Now, and April is no different. For the cloud streaming service, there are just three games joining the fray, but they're pretty big ones. Marvel's Avengers, Borderlands 3, and The Long Dark will be streamable and downloadable on PS Now starting tomorrow, 6th April.
Square Enix's ongoing superhero action title is a pretty big win for subscribers, letting you sample the game for no extra cost. It'll be available on PS Now until 5th July 2021, so there's just a few months to take advantage of that. Borderlands 3, Gearbox's popular co-op looter shooter, will be sticking around a little longer, available until 29th September. Lastly, survival game The Long Dark appears to be a permanent addition to the service.
Sony has also confirmed the free trial is making a return. Starting from 7th April, anyone not currently subscribed to PS Now can take it for a seven-day spin.
Will you be checking any of these titles out on PS Now? Assemble in the comments section below.

Bruh didn't avengers only come out in september
Hey, I'll take Marvel's Avengers! I've been wanting to play it, but have held off so far since everyone says it's so bad.
I think I’ll wait until next month and get them on Plus
I wonder if we'll get the PS5 version of Avengers too, or only the PS4 version. Anyone know if you can save transfer from PS5 to PS4 or only the other way?
you know if Avengers was on Gamepass it would be front page news on a lot of news sites it'll probably be ignored that it's on Now
Got PS Now for a dollar last week so that’s a “good” get. I’ll try out Avengers. Good thing I didn’t buy it when it was on sale.
@Playstation so glad were getting borderlands 3 and not mlb the show.
Stull don't get that game.
Golf
Soccer
Nba
And hockey i totally get why someone wants to play that but baseball.
Borderlands 3 is almost unplayable on the PS4 Pro. There are frame drops even when my character is just moving. Avengers will probably be free on PS+ at some point. Overall it's a good month.
Sounds like a pretty good selection. Unfortunately Now is still unavailable in half of Europe.
@BrainHacker it was fine on the base model when I played it at launch
Very suprised to not see MLB The Show here. I thought Sony would have to counter Xbox, but clearly not...
@Kopite
Avengers is actually a pretty decent get for PS Now.
The only negative is the game is dying so probably should be F2P at this point and not part of a subscription service.
Still worth the download for the campaign though.
Nothing for me this time. Wouldn't play Marvel's Avengers even for free.
Well dang, that’s not bad at all. Are these the PS4 versions?
@Kopite I don't know. The frame drops can be unbearable when I play it on my PS4 Pro. I haven't played it after trying the game. I should have bought it on steam but the PS4 version was cheaper at that time. Kinda regret tbh.
@blinx01 agree it should have been F2P or at the very least released at a budget price at launch
@blinx01 Why do they need to counter? Mlb is on gamepass as the franchise is quite niche and they get money from Microsoft. And mlb 20 was given part of ps plus not long ago and nobody give a darn. Dont forget gamepass is 3 times more expensive than the ps now retail price. As it’s now, it is not three times better and most of the games available are more or less the same. The only appeal of gamepass is first party games and nothing new came out since the new console launch.
Well, we know at least one of the next few PS Plus games then
@BrainHacker I never had any issues with it when I played it
@mrbone
Bad PR is why they needed to counter.
A first party developed game is on Game Pass day one, and the equivalent service for Sony does not have it.
I doubt they will get any money from MS either, as the MLB publish the game on Xbox, not Sony. Probably why the deal even happened.
I'm not arguing the price point of the service, but just the fact Sony have a sleeping giant to challenge Game Pass, but don't seem to know how to take advantage of it.
I'd gladly pay £10.99/$15 a month if Sony first party games were included day one in PS Now.
Maybe a weird question, but would you able to play the PS5 version with this (since it’s a free upgrade?)
Well guess i'll give Marvel Avengers a go then
Very nice.
Jumping between GamePass, Uplay and PS Now I can save a good bit of cash on games not 100% sure about, but like to try.
What I did for Fenyx Rising and WatchDog. Just got Uplay Connect for 1 month and played them both for $14.
@Kopite Good for you but my experience is different. Character movement is sluggish especially when encountering enemies.
@mrbone yea... I forgot they gave MLB 19 (October 2019) via PS+. Lots were even mad about PS giving a sport game as one of their "free" games for that month.... figures. The fact it was from a somewhat niche sport like baseball made it even worse at the time.
Hahaha how to tell a game is crap. It gets added to PS Now before it's next gen version even releases.
Hey that's good. I'll try out Avengers then.
Whatever people think of Avengers, remember that every game is worth a punt at least one to find out if you like it or not
Wow sony stepping up their game, I know outriders might be new but I'm sure marvel avengers and borderlands 3 is a better headliner
If these are just the ps4 versions that kinda sucks, throw the loyal ps5 purchasers a bone too.
@SegataSanshiro
You’re right, £50 for a year of PS Now, and £96 for Gamepass, which considering it has far fewer games I’d consider too expensive, unless I actually bought games day one.
Not counting the £1 a month PS Now offer or similar offers on Gamepass obviously.
Not sure where he got the 3 times as much thing, it’s only around twice as much.
gamepass can be even cheaper than that most people just buy 3 years worth of xbox live gold and convert it to gamepass ultimate for £1 works out about £100 for 3 years. I wish sony would do a cheaper combined subscription of PS+ and PSNOW
There are easy ways sony could improve PSNOW but for some reason they wont. when after a couple of years an exclusive game like Days gone gets added leave it on there dont take it off. That then over time gradually expands the library and makes it more appealing. Make it playable on mobile the games can all be streamed why not stream to a mobile. and lastly give an option to combine PS+ and PSNOW
@SegataSanshiro
The other thing that irks me is a lot of the Sony games are missing.
How can you try to offer a service like this but not even include your older games that can be bought physically for next to nothing?
@SegataSanshiro
Yeah, I’ve streamed a few small games but the experience wasn’t as great as local dso I stopped. I only count downloadable (meaning PS4 games) as part of my service now, and there are far, far, far more on PS Now. Hundreds more downloadable than are available on Gamepass. unless things have changed on Gamepass substantially.
There are 402 downloadable games on psnow and 334 on gamepass
@trev666 but out of those 334 on gamepass how many are xbox one games? The 402 on ps now are all ps4 games
Not a great month for me.. Borderlands 3 I already own (and at least on PS5 it's a great game), Marvel Avengers looks to be pretty bad and beyond fixing at this point.. The long dark might actually end up being the only thing of interest for me 😕
For starters Sony need to add older first party games and keep them there for good then bring the service to the cloud on android and apple.
Then start adding some exclusive content like 3rd party day 1 releases whilst keeping their new first party releases to buy only
@SegataSanshiro
It’s personally choice I guess. It’s an objective fact that there are more downloadable games for less money on PS Now. The last time I checked out Gamepass there were far fewer but newer games. But as someone who hasn’t bought a game day one for around a decade, that doesn’t matter much to me.
@SegataSanshiro so for someone who wants to play games from two gens ago then gamepass would be the better choice whilst in terms of last gen ps now would a better choice.
And of course for people who want to play xbox exclusives then obviously gamepass would be their choice
@SegataSanshiro so figuratively speaking of someone wasn't interested in playing xbox 360 games and they didn't like xbox exclusives then is gamepass still worth it?
I would say theres more new games on gamepass than old games. for example added recently Outriders, Narita boy, genesis noir, Yakuza 6, Octopath traveller, Starwars squadrons, Empire of sin, undertale, NBA2k21, Football manager 2021
@SegataSanshiro
Exactly. I get a better selection of first part titles from the PS Plus Collection being a PS5 owner.
I understand that PlayStation don't have the money to lock up day one titles like Xbox can, but they can at least put all older first party titles as a permanent fixtures of PS Now.
Just speaks volumes of how little they actually see it as part of their main business plans.
@SegataSanshiro
What makes you think I haven’t? Lol. I don’t really understand why you would want games to rotate out of a service, as long as new ones come in. In fact, one of the things I prefer with Now over Gamepass is that games stay around longer and, with the bigger ones that do rotate out, you get either 3 or 6 months to play them and know exactly when they’ll leave.
@SegataSanshiro
“Rotate” is just marketing speak because games coming in is not dependent on games leaving. What you are talking about is just games being removed, which is never good, but as long as we are told in advance is acceptable. That wasn’t always my experience on Gamepass where I was often told with a week or two left.
Anyway, they are both great value, which is “better” depends on how much time one has to play and how often one buys games new.
@SegataSanshiro
At around 1 hr game time a night (a bit more on weekends) I can often only get through a game or two a month or so, which is probably why a subscription service twice the price isn’t worth it to me when I can’t play twice the games, so you are right about that.
Alright Sony fine, I'll renew Now this time.
I have no clue why we are comparing how many games is on Game Pass vs PS Now. PS Now have been around since 2014 while Game Pass have only been around since 2017. The quality of PS Now have done nothing but gone up and down... Mostly down with Sony removing feature like being able to play on on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, Sony Bravia televisions, Sony Blu-ray players and all Samsung televisions... and so far it have been stagnant since 2017. While Game Pass have done nothing but improve, and add more features. So while PS Now may have a few more games... It doesn't have that many more for service that been around 3 years longer.
My personal hot take, as someone with an XSX with GPU and PS5 with plus and Now - right now, plus with Now is as good as GPU, or at least very close, and Sony would be foolish not to combine them. The duplicate games suck so it would be great if there was less than that, but I'm finding more to play on Sony services than Gamepass recently
(GWG is irrelevant right now). Sure, Now+plus doesn't get the first party exclusives day 1, but even the most ardent Xbox fanboys must admit there is a gulf in quality between exclusives, and Sony would be mad to do the same
@SegataSanshiro @thefourfoldroot actually “rotate” is not marketing speak. Libraries do this all over the US. If assume they’ll world because the books often go out of countries. Anyway, It’s a proven point collections can get stale. “Rotating” the collection helps get people’s eyes on things. And yes by “rotating” that means “rotating out” not keeping in the back some where. The books get sent to other libraries or sold. Either way it Keeps the staleness away. It’s actually thing and I don’t know how that works in the UK but in the US they rotate out materials all the time.
In fact that’s why PSNow doesn’t seem as shiny, the collection is stale. PS Plus has a new selection every month. PSNow, it sometimes takes months to get new stuff. The same thing is happening up NSO. It’s the same amount of games, but because instead of monthly it’s 2-3 months people are “eh.”
Just look at what happens when bread people rotate bread on the shelf. People think it’s fresh. Sometimes it is but sometimes if you look at the dates it not. Many of them don’t bother looking at dates. It’s the rotation.
(Not to mention the vast majority of people don’t finish games, sure people on this board have. My friend owned KH3 twice as long as I did l; I finished it, finished the DLC, and could have replayed it. She’s still in the same spot.)
@trev666 got both and in my opinion ps now offers a better and the most diverse selection, game pass has newer titles but the majority are crap
@mousieone
Lol, libraries and shops rotate due to lack of inventory space silly! Not applicable to these services. New games coming in to both doesn’t mean old games have to leave to make room, limited time access is merely a way for Sony and MS to save money.
Sony gives around 3-4 games a month (often some just appear without being advertised), Gamepass around the same, sometimes they add a load more at once, but they also leave much more frequently. Both great services depending on how much time you have and how new you need your games to be (often the same thing).
@thefourfoldroot it’s not due to shelf space not 100%. It’s funny you think that. Or that you think I’m “silly”. Fun fact I interned at a library while I was doing my masters in library science. And that’s what I did when the library had more than enough space. Get back to me when you actually know what you are talking about.
jimcarreyohcomeon.gif
We need some Vita games and more PS3 games added to the service. Thousands of games COULD be added if Sony wanted to add some spice to the service.
@mousieone
Of course I, and everyone here, understands that, unlike your other example of shops and bread (which was truly silly) libraries can share and rotate collections to give people in other geographies fresh products without massively increasing costs. This is obvious and doesn’t require a degree to work out, Master’s or otherwise. As is the fact that it is entirely besides the point when talking about a single subscription service like this. Nothing is rotated with other subscription services, no space needs be made either, to get more eyeballs on products here you simply advertise them as new “stock” when they hit and put them on the front page. Simple.
Nothing about any of your examples can be used to indicate that products are rotated (they don’t return or go elsewhere after all).
Games are simply removed and others added. That is all.
Oh, and you also clearly haven’t used Now if you think it takes months for new games to be added. 3-4 are added every month minimum, generally the first Tuesday.
@SegataSanshiro I agree, you cannot have an unbiased opinion unless you try both. GPU just cross out most of the games on my PSN wishlist account. Code Vein, Fallen Order, Yakuza series, Doom Eternal, Plague Tale, Star Wars Squadron, Tales of Vesperia, The Outer Worlds and I'm playing Nier Automata again on PC. The Gears and Halo series are great but tbh I still prefer PS exclusives games lol. I'm really glad that PS is finally releasing their games on PC, now PC gamers can have both PS and Xbox games without buying a console.
@SegataSanshiro Sony's network for PS Now is Microsoft Azure. If GamePass has streaming (my knowledge of gamepass is very limited), then it's 100% running on the same service as Now. It's certainly possible that gamepass could be located in more data centers/allocated more resources (which would likely just be an issue of Sony deciding it's not worth it to pay more for more infrastructure).
Personally, I've never experienced any lag streaming PS3 or PS4 games. So I probably live near enough one of the data centers hosting Now.
@SegataSanshiro though I do agree with you that gamepass is a good deal, I wouldn't go as far as saying it's an amazing deal. It could be in the future if/when they release brilliant 1st party games from all their studios(and don't raise the price too high) but at the moment for me it's a bit flat. I'm lucky enough to have a series x sat next to a PS5, but it only really gets turned on when my kids want to play minecraft or TABS. I did enjoy desperados 3 on the service but most of the others I've either played or have no interest in(outriders demo was crap). I have no interest in 360 games, I bought next gen consoles to play next gen games. And I think a lot of the big gamepass PR talk lately is to distract from the fact they have no 1st party games launching anytime soon. They wouldn't have paid for outriders if they did. It's funny that MS is making all these headlines when Sony have 3 big next gen console exclusives launching in the next 3 months. Sony's PR team need firing.
But I do agree that gamepass is better than psnow at the moment, but PSPlus has kept me entertained for the last 3 months. And on a side note, for me personally playing on the series x controller(MS's biggest mistake) after using the dualsense just feels lifeless.
@thefourfoldroot Two different contextual arguments and you know it. Don't try to belittle me. 1) The conversation about bread had to do with people's mindset not the word "Rotation". it was clearly in the part of my argument, so no. Don't take that out of context. 2) Did you miss the part where I said Libraries sell materials they rotate out? Most of the books that get "rotated out" don't go to another library. They get sold, thrown away, or given away. 3) You're taking one definition of the word "Rotate" but there are definitions Webster's dictionary definition 4) to exchange (individuals or units) with others Dictionary.com defition 3) To Replace.
I might give Borderlands 3 another shot. I played about 20 hours or so before moving onto something else. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a Borderlands game come to think of it.
I'll give Avengers a try for free i guess
@Serialsid Ironically, Xbox will have upcoming games with Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo but it will be timed exclusive to PS5 on launch date. MS could still put these games on Gamepass PC or xCloud if they wanted.
@Rob_230 the single player story is surprisingly ok. It’s just a shame about everything else.
@SegataSanshiro FPS games is just meant to be played on PC imo.
I really didn't care for the antagonists in borderlands 3. They seemed like that kid in class, who tried too hard to be funny? Edgy? I don't know. They sucked.
Avengers has a pretty good singleplayer game. Good for $20, great for subscription.
The long dark, havent tried yet.
But I think more goodwill could of been had, by releasing the show on psnow or ps+. But they have to recoup some development costs, etc. Maybe later.
@SegataSanshiro I hear what your saying, and I agree it's good that we all like different things. Dualsense is now my favourite controller of all time and the immersion it adds to games is why I buy all the 3rd party games that use it on my PS5. I'm probably just regretting getting the series x and wish I had stayed with my one x for now as it just doesn't add much when your actually playing the games. Whereas the ps5 does.
But I'm sure in the coming years if they get the quality vs quantity right that will change and Sony will have some very stiff competition. Which at the end of the day we all want because we should all benefit.
@BrainHacker I'm not sure if they can, depends on the contract Sony signed. I'm pretty sure if they could launch deathloop on gamepass PC and x cloud they would be announcing it from the roof tops to add to Sony's PR nightmare they're having at the moment.
@SegataSanshiro Anti-aliasing, field of view, motion blur and SSAO just adds more depths to the overall picture quality of the game and playing on uncapped framerates is something you can't experience on consoles yet. RDR2 appears blurry on my PS4 Pro compared to my PC playthrough. Jim Ryan did mentioned that Sony had an incredible PS4 game line-up when he talked about releasing Days Gone on PC, so here's hoping God of War and HFW will be on PC as well.
@Serialsid I think Deathloop and Ghostwire are only timed console exclusives, so there's a possibility that MS could add these games on Gamepass PC and xCloud which are totally different platforms. MS didn't announced that MLB the Show and Outriders will be coming to Gamepass until it was only two weeks away before launch.
Imagine if Death Standing comes to Gamepass PC. 505 games is the publisher of DS on PC and not Sony, and there are rumors that Phil Spencer could be teasing a Hideo Kojima Project with MS. Another bad PR for Sony.
@SegataSanshiro I was sceptical too before I played games like WR9, FIFA, COD, sackboy and Astro. Its one of the reasons I'm excited for psvr2. Like you say, we all like different things.
@Milktastrophe You can use the free PS5 upgrade for it.
@NemesisSam30 the next-gen version has already been out.
@BrainHacker will be interesting to see what happens. We'll know in just over a month what the state of play is with deathloop.
@SegataSanshiro it's a good thing that I didn't gave up on DS. the first few hours was boring af but the pace eventually picks up. PS likes to lock third-party games with timed-exclusivity deals and considering I don't have a PS5 yet, it will be a pain in the butt to wait for PS5 console exclusivity deals to expire.
I didn't know that Sony was unhappy with DS sales figure. I know Kojima said that they managed to breakeven the production cost. Now, I'm worried for Housemarque with Returnal.
@Serialsid Sony has been quietly lately but then they will just blew away people with their presentation/announcement which works for them most of the time. The bad PR they have right now will be gone once they released a gameplay video of HFW and God of War Ragnarok lol
@mousieone
I had no intent, and have no desire, to “belittle” a random internet person. I merely refuted your point, and did so well. I believe you just wanted to show everyone your understanding of the word “rotate” and alternative uses of the term in different industries, and forgot or didn’t care that those points were completely out of context for this article. I think I’ll leave it there.
@thefourfoldroot Oh please now your on the backfoot and you know it. You were saying to someone else, which had nothing too with the article, that the word “rotate” was being used as “marketing term”. I stated that no it wasn’t and brought up a context in which the word rotation is used and isn’t marketing but every day word. Then I brought up why rotating like this isn’t a bad thing. At this point, you directly called me “silly”. Like “Silly rabbit trick are for kids”. Yeah okay Im silly. Naturally, I called you out on that, and then you back pedaled and mixed my first and second points up from my original post. which were in two different paragraphs and discussing two different things. Then I directly pointed out your limited use of the word “rotate”. Listen, I don’t know what point you think you argued well considering you needed to insult me and mixed my original post but whatever. Have fun.
@mousieone
“ brought up a context in which the word rotation is used and isn’t marketing but every day word”
So you admit that you brought up a completely different context? You will notice I didn’t actually disagree with anything you said about libraries or shops right? Just stated a fact, that it isn’t pertinent to the discussion. No back peddling required pal.
Look, I’m sorry if I upset you or my tone sounded condescending or in some other way belittling. Your point was irrelevant clearly, but not generally wrong within the context in which it was framed.
@thefourfoldroot I saw your edit and will take your apology.
@Kopite Outriders that's a new game, I have Avengers it has so many problems and bugs I quit playing it and Borderland 3 I didn't like it gave up playing the last 2 were better I thought. But it's good they are adding newer game's I don't have it anymore I have the best game's on PS4 so no point plus I play my Xbox SX more
@CrispyMango92 how did you get it for a dollar and for how long do you have the subscription, I regret not buying during the holidays they had some great deals...
@romenyc I just saw they were having a sale for a month of PS Now on the PS5 store last week and subbed. I’m in the US so I don’t know if it was everywhere or just here.
I have PS Plus and PS Now and I have had no need to buy a single game since Black Friday. Sony has been killing it with their services recently.
@tartanross I never mentioned Outriders so I don't know why its been mentioned, I was just saying that any "big" game that appears on Gamepass gets attention from every corner of the gaming media where as games added to PS Now rarely get a look in outside of console specific sites.
@mousieone
Not sure what I edited, apart from adding in the bit about Sony giving 3-4 games on Now every month, rather than the none for several months you suggested, but I am sorry if I belittled your point and made you feel that way, it was not my intent, I merely wished to show an alternative view (or rather defend my original point). So I do apologise if I came across badly.
@Kopite @Kopite Because it's a big game to come Gamepassa and it's new, but this article was in my news feed saying how great PSN now is with adding the game's and PS Plus is so it's the same
