Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will seemingly revisit an old idea from PlayStation 3 spin-off Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, as it will feature small sandbox levels for you to explore. Those of you who played the last-last-gen swansong will recall one level that you were free to traverse with a jetpack; a gameplay clip for the new PS5 title shows Ratchet sprinting through a giant desert with rocket boots.
The release will also see the return of the gladiator arena battles from previous versions, as well as interdimensional Clank puzzles. That’s not all: there’ll be Panzer Dragoon-style aerial combat sequences, Watch Dogs-esque spider-bot battles, and, of course, plenty of Gold Bolts to collect. Oh, and if that’s not enough, you’ll be able to document all of your discoveries in Photo Mode.
Phew!

Oh no, not Clank puzzles 😂😂
Ok guys, is it me or this looks absolutely bonkers? I thought we were going to get a PlayStation 6 logo at the end or something. Insane!
@nessisonett Clank puzzles are the best puzzles
@Feena Yeah, the visuals are a massive step up from PS4. It’ll be interesting to see how many upcoming games opt for PS5 only or are multiplat.
@Voltan But they’re so dull when you just want to shoot things 😂
@Feena It called the power of an internal first party studio.
Bummed but not surprised there's no space exploration coming back. That part of Crack in Time was best Ratchet IMO.
Looks great otherwise. It's Ratchet though, always fun but rarely surprising. AAA comfort food.
OK, So I'm watching it again, this time in 4K and paying attention to details. There's definitely some off-screen stuff reflected in some of those puddles.
So yeah, I'm not expert but I think it has RT reflections - not all that surprising after seeing how they did them in Spider-Man, I guess
Ah yes, the small sandbox levels first introduced in Into The Nexus.
And not that there was two of them in RAC2, one in RAC3, one in Tools of Destruction...., in fact, the one level they show off here, Sargasso, WAS the open sandbox level for Tools of Destruction.
Sure none of them were quite as expansive but it was still all seemlessly loaded, items to get and lots of enemies.
Oh and big things to kill for said items too.
I hope they bring back the Plasma Coil from R&C2. No weapon has ever topped it, before or since.
Man the city just like cyberpunk when it's announced back then, the volume and the moving vehicle of the city is really impressive, I hope we can explore and talk to most of the npc in the city.
@fR_eeBritney if you watch the footage closely, you can see the Plasma Coil at mrs. Zurkon's shop. They also put Megacorp crates in the area as well, so its definitely possible.
And I agree, the Plasma Coil is the best.
@Floki I don't think Horizon 2 will look as good as this though, that game is purposely being handicapped so we won't see it's full potential like Rift Apart.
These past 6 months have shown just how massively important it was for Sony to acquire Insomniac.
@Feena I'll be honest thought didn't cross my mind, but that would have been mind blowing XD.
Agreed though game looks phenomenal.
