Ubisoft’s oft-criticised Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, which was originally scheduled to release on 21st January before being pushed back to 18th March, has been delayed indefinitely. On the franchise’s official Twitter account, a spokesperson for the development team in Pune said that the “passion and support” of fans is driving everyone to make “the best game possible”. However, in order to achieve that it’s decided to release at a later date.
The statement continues: “This extra development time will enable our teams to deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original. We understand the update may come as a surprise and we will continue to keep you posted on the progress.”
The game did attract some criticism when it was announced in September of last year due to its overall presentation and aesthetic, so hopefully this delay will enable the studio to really enhance the entire project. It’s worth remembering, of course, that we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, which is adversely affecting development teams around the world.

Oh dear. At the same time, I do think that more delays should be indefinite so that we get the game when it’s actually ready.
Better be at hold rather than rushed unfinished product
Since they haven't given a new released date, can we assume PS Store will give refunds, for those of us that preordered digitally?
I suppose this means they'll actually be making significant changes, which - based on my impressions from the trailer - is a good thing.
After what we saw i'm not surprised and pretty glad
Such a shame, it was hoping for a good remake. With any luck things might change in the future.
And I love your use of 'oft' in your writing Sammy! Good old English term seldom used, nice 😊
So much better than the American-driven fascination for using the term 'oftentimes'. So uneconomical, what's wrong with often? 😆
@hulkie What's the point of preordering digitally, in the first place?
@hulkie That's usually the policy, but you'll probably need to check with Sony to be certain.
Honestly I had a feeling this was going to happen, it did look a tad rough during certain parts of the Reveal Trailer.
@Fyz306903 Can't speak directly to this game, but I know that games like NHL offered you the 94 Rewind version if you pre-ordered. Sometimes pre-orders come with early access or digital currency or some people may just feel comfortable with the notion that they've laid their money down and they don't have to worry about it later.
I recently replayed this and while the parkour gameplay, story and level design stand up wonderfully today the combat definitely needs to be addressed.
This is one of the best PS2 games imho and I hope they take the time to do it right.
Not least that sales of these remasters are used to test the waters for a potential sequel. Bring back PoP!
Good! Do it properly and then remake the warrior within!
Don't make a remake if you can't at least meet the standards of the original.
Let's be honest - this looked so horrible. The backlash when people saw it definitely influenced the delay. The game looks like a PS3 title.
As long as it doesn't look, um..., terrible anymore, I'll accept this.
Honestly it's for the best. They've shown nothing new since the original delay. Honestly hoping it turns out good unlike another ubisoft title that got ruined cough XIII Remake unconvincing cough
Congratulations for not releasing a cash grab piece of crap that would only enrage the fan base.
Who cares would have rather had Warrior Within remaster.
Good, I want the remake to be as good as crash trilogy or spiro remake.
Considering how lackluster it looked i'm actually ok with this as it means it should hopefully look better and not have as many issues. Shame they didn't do a Mass Effect and remake all 3 games as personally i feel the sequels were the better games, i actually really loved WW even if the "edgy" tone is somewhat dated now.
@hulkie when South Park did it and had no new date I was automatically given a refund
@WallyWest Warrior Within had the best combat too.
@TopG1982 if this one sells well when it eventually releases then the warrior within & the two thrones will come after
How about we cancel it? Unless this emerges in over a year a new game it’ll hurt the series more than help. Kill it in fact. So please, just cancel it. I’m doubtful this will be entirely redone.
Resi remakes are the gold standard
So is the PS store going to refund our preorders this week,or do we have to request them? It would make sense since the game has been delayed indefinitely.
@hulkie Just fill out a refund form to be sure?
This remake definitely needs the delay, please take as much time as needed!
@Bentley-Ma- Filled out a form late Saturday. No refund to my psn wallet ,and no reply from them. This is silly, surely there are others who preordered?
