Sonic the Hedgehog's movie debut, with its redesigned Blue Blur, ended up being a big hit for Paramount Pictures in those pre-pandemic days. Amusingly, where we live, buses were plastered with advertisements for the SEGA mascot prior to coronavirus, and they remained in place for months and months and months during lockdown. We still see one occasionally!

Anyway, such was the success of the film that a sequel has been announced. As is par for the course in the movie industry, it’s targeting an 8th April, 2022 theatrical run – but no further details have been announced. Judging by the logo, there’ll be a big emphasis on Tails, which is similar to the original SEGA Genesis titles, with the second obviously introducing Sonic’s foxy friend.

“Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious. Presenting the official title of the Sonic Movie sequel: Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” reads the trailer blurb. We also hear the Emerald Hill Zone music, which is pretty cool. However, as mentioned previously, there’s no word on whether Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr Eggman just yet. Watch this space.
