The unique horror experiences for PlayStation 5 are starting to flow thick and fast as the folklore-inspired Mundaun is confirmed for the current-gen console alongside the previously announced PlayStation 4 version. Both editions will launch on 16th March 2021, with PS4 owners getting a free upgrade after purchasing Sony's latest system. Alongside the reveal is a new video embedded above that dives into the creative process of Michel Ziegler, the single person developing the title.
A press release explains how Mundaun has been Ziegler's passion project since 2014 following multiple summer months spent in the Swiss Alps as a child. "It's exciting to finally have a release date and share the experience of Mundaun with the passionate community that has been following the game over the past several years. The Alps hold a special importance to me and everything from the game’s story to the hand-pencilled characters and environments celebrate the remarkable culture of the Swiss region of Grisons. I’m glad to have worked with MWMi to bring this project to the finish line and look forward to players uncovering Mundaun’s secrets."
Mundaun is a survival horror game set on the darker side of the Alps, and follows a young man named Curdin who travels to the Swiss town of Mundaun to learn more about the mysterious circumstances behind his grandfather’s death, and soon discovers that something diabolical is haunting the town’s residents. Throughout their journey across Mundaun, players will solve intricate puzzles to uncover the town’s secrets, while avoiding sinister characters that trigger the game’s fear system, a “cause-and-effect” feature which disorients players when facing dangerous situations.

Lol thanks sony for releasing a horror game on both PS4/PS5 unlike The Medium only on Series X|S and PC. I like what i'm seeing here
Looks interesting
@Gaming365247 I read a comment on YouTube that definitely wasn’t a fanboy and it said “The Medium is more technically ambitious using ssd for dual worlds than Racket & Clank: Rift Apart”
Maybe it’s a legitimately ambitious project only possible on next gen. Maybe it’s nothing more than marketing hype.
@2cents I find that hard to believe. Check out innocenceii’s vid on YouTube on whether ratchet and clank would even run on xbox x/s.
Again he’s not a fanboy (pc master race 🤮)
@2cents whats funny though i'm pretty sure i read some where that the medium originally started as a 360/Ps3 game.
@2cents I find that very hard to believe.
This is definitely going on the wishlist! I love to support passionate independent developers who make stuff like this.
When I saw the word Folklore i jumped thinking a remaster might be coming. Alas not meant to be. A PS3 classic by my estimations Folklore is.
@Eadgar I can here to post this same thing lol. Such a great game but many on PS3 misses it amid the early struggles of that console.
@AhmadSumadi I would be interested to find out who, if anyone, has the rights to the title. I know the studio that developed the game is no more, but I wonder if Sony has the rights to the title.
I still have my PS3 copy and you know what, i will do a playthrough this year for the first time in a long time.
