As promised by Capcom, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will be getting a physical release, although it'll launch a little later than its digital counterpart. The boxed version, which boasts some lovely artwork of the game's main characters — including the now playable Vergil — will release on the 1st December 2020.
For reference, the aforementioned digital version will be available on the day that the PS5 launches in your territory. It won't be a free upgrade if you already own Devil May Cry 5 on PS4, but it won't retail at full price.

Definitely waiting on this physical version. I still am a bit salty as a PC player given Capcom's constant neglect of the platform with stuff like Iceborne not coming out for like 6 months after other platforms as well as missing out on DmC Definitive Edition in addition to the ***** port of DMC3 SE outside the HD Collection, but Legendary Dark Knight mode looks insane. It's like a DMC Musou mode.
Will maybe be picking it up, yes, with two caveats: I’ll wait for the price to drop, and it needs to have the stupid European censorship removed.
Would have played again if it was a free upgrade.
@TheFrenchiestFry That's one of the reasons I will always have a console even though I have a PC.
I've only played a little bit of this so I'm really tempted to get it physically in December
@oldschool1987 Capcom's literally never done re-releases as free upgrades so that was never expected. They're basically like Atlus when it comes to re-releases of older games
@TheFrenchiestFry neither has any company until this generation. This generation it's a new thing, and I'm noticing which ones are charging again and which ones aren't.
@thefourfoldroot ah I forgot about the censorship. But I think that was Sony enforcing it, which is even worse tbh. They'll pick and choose what they censor, a bum is too much, but a sec scene in TLOU2 is fine apparently.
I also hate the argument in defense of censorship by people who can't think for themselves "yOU jUsT wAnT tO sEe aNiMe tItS" 😂 they never seem to understand that censorship is a slippery slope. Microsoft and even Nintendo ain't doing it. Sonys attitude these last few years has been worrying ever since they moved to California.
@oldschool1987 Well the distinction to be made here is that a lot of the upgraded titles are just straight ports from PS4/PS5 with slight graphical enhancements
stuff like DMC3 SE, DMC4 SE and the Persona re-releases go above and beyond in terms of extra content to the point where they can practically be considered their own thing and not just simple up-ressed ports of older games
Like I still think Spider-Man Remastered should've been a free upgrade given it's literally the exact same game verbatim with like 3 new suits and different trophies, but Vergil in addition to extra content is very much in the vein of an enhanced re-release rather than a straight conversion, so I can understand selling that seperately compared to something like Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
@oldschool1987
Yeah, that “argument” is a bit silly. Like I care about some polygon posterior when I have a wife and the internet.
It’s not about fake boobs or arses, it’s about the insult and the attempt at social engineering.
@TheFrenchiestFry yeah, that's a fair point, but mostly for older games. Many recent games are being a next gen patch for free. I'm only pointing out the companies charging again for it. I think that's fair to do.
@thefourfoldroot perfectly worded, pal
@get2SammyB Do I get a discount for DMC5SE if I own DMC5, or is it just $40 like everyone else? They really should have a discount. I don't expect it to be free, but I expect to not buy the game all over again.
@Jaz007 Sadly I imagine no discount for PS4 owners, we'll have to rebuy the game at full price (or wait for it to go on sale).
