Insomniac Games promised it would give us a good look at Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered running on a PlayStation 5 before launch and boy has it delivered. Alongside a series of impressive next-gen screenshots, a new trailer shows off what the developer has achieved on Sony's latest system. In short: it's seriously impressive. The game now runs at 60 frames-per-second and takes advantage of all the bells and whistles of the PS5 console.
The PlayStation Blog post reads: "The team has done the painstaking work of updating the city’s environment to take advantage of the new console. Beyond improved models and materials, one of the biggest things we have brought to the game is ray-traced reflections and ambient shadows. We now have true reflections on the windows of buildings, and it looks stunning with our new skies and weather."
There will be near-instant load times, spatial 3D audio, and support for the PS5 DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Peter Parker has even gotten a new face model for the new generation! Insomniac Games has also revealed one of the new suits included with the remaster — The Amazing Suit. Funnily enough, there will also be an option to turn back on the fast travel cutscenes in the underground subway. The PS5's SSD is so quick that it doesn't even need them anymore.
Don't forget that Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered is only available through the Ultimate Edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Has this glimpse convinced you that this remaster is worth the effort? Web-sling into the comments below.

Yay: 60 fps footage looks nice
Nay: Replacing the perfectly fine Peter Parker model with a Tom Holland lookin ass wannabe.
I'm still not forking over the extra $20 for this though. Sell it separately and then we'll see.
The biggest change will be showing how long subway rides take. Show em, ya cowards.
Yeah I've just seen this and that screenshot with the reflections
Must say watching on my phone dose this no justice. As to be honest did not seem to me to be an outstanding improvement. May be just me lol as with ps4 spiderman looking so good in the first place may just save 20 pounds
@MFTWrecks they said they've disabled them because its too fast but you can turn them back on if you want
Can't really see that much improvement. Will need to see a side by side video to really tell the difference
Quite incredible. I'm almost happy that I didn't play this game yet!
Looks exactly the same to me. On my phone thought will check out on TV later.
Just watched some PS4 gameplay, and the weather, combat smoothness, draw distance and the reflections mean a bigger deal than I expected. That being said, I didn't expect too much from this remaster anyway, so maybe I'm just easily impressed.
Not liking the new face at all.
Doesn’t look much different but the reflection of clouds on windows looks nice. 60fps is good too. I won’t be playing through again though.
@MFTWrecks wow epic fail! Read the damn article! The SSD is so fast there will be 1 second load times! No subway rides!
I'm seeing no difference outside the screenshots...
Will look on my 4K OLED later to see if it's worth the plunge.
@Latex Honestly, aside from the obvious upgrade to 60fps, the footage didn't impress me when watching it on my computer, either. Still just looks like a PS4 game. I can't believe how much they're charging for this on PS5.
It's worth it for the 60 fps upgrade alone, can't wait to play it
Also it's only $20, so I think I'll get the miles morales ultimate edition on ps5.
This looks tasty!
People do realize the graphical leap from PS4 to PS5 is most likely not going to be as huge this generation. It's going to be about performance and effects that weren't possible before.
Don't forget that this is the 60fps mode, the 30fps mode will have the ray tracing from the screenshots and a higher resolution
Additionally, thanks to the power of the PS5 console, we’re now able to offer a high frame rate through Performance Mode, which targets a 60fps frame rate!
Wait it can't even run the PS4 game at 60FPS naturally without having to turn down sliders? That's so off to me, the graphical improvement is a minute one at best, can't see why this couldn't run at a native 4K with 60FPS.
Peep the "targets" too, damn this is so disappointing
@jmac1686 this is true, PS4 games already look incredible, but there's no denying we will see a jump, because to me, it's already present in launch window games like Demons Souls and Ratchet. This is just a remastered PS4 game, it's not really going to wow you, it's just a nice way to play a 2018 game.
Well I'm glad I didn't play the game yet lol
I don't see anything here that couldn't be done on the PS4.
@DonJorginho Because you can always add more graphical fidelity to a game? So you've got a 4K 60fps game, you can decide to put even more detail on screen, but you have to lower either the frame rate or the resolution. It's always going to be a choice. It's not like next gen runs everything at 60fps at 4K by default. That's not how it works.
really want a 1440 60 mode with raytracing. Native 4k is kinda boring after seeing DLSS upscaling.
I had to look at the original again to see a difference. At first glance it was how I imagined the original version.
It's an ok upgrade... The main question being is it worth the extra price tag? The changing of the face seems to me a sly way to show a noticeable difference in this version.
I loved Spider-Man but I just don't see the point still... I'd rather Insomniac has chucked more time and resources into expanding the Miles Morales game with more content than a shinier version of a game I've 100%.
lol... so they lied about all the extra work that went into this it seems. 60fps is a nice addition but pretty standard upgrade from other publishers. they gave peter a new character model that is take it or leave it in my opinion. what else? the shadows look terrible in this footage and are flickering all over the place. this is a barebones enchancement on first impression. sony is not arguing its case well.
Hmmmm...
Huh? Why does a last gen game need a boost mode to run 60fps on a next gen console? This has to be a joke
@Octane I get that, but I'm not seeing any massive graphical improvements yet outside of the screenshots.
Looks the exact same in motion from what we've seen.
"Spatial 3D Audio on compatible headphones"
This statement from the Blog Post worries me. "Compatible headphones"? Sony, you BETTER not lock 3D Audio behind proprietary (and expensive) headphones again. It was a garbage thing to do on PS4 and would be a garbage thing to do on PS5.
Woah the dislike ratio on the trailer(not the 60fps in this article, the main one) is very surprising. I'm against the remake in general but for $20 I could see a lot of people wanting it. I guess that was incorrect, everyone seems pissed off about his face lol
@DonJorginho its not a straight port though, it has upgraded models, city details, shadows, new reflections, sky box and weather system with more pedestrians and traffic. So its not just a case of trying to run the PS4 version at 60fps which I doubt it would have any trouble doing
@GamingFan4Lyf They clearly just mean headphones that support the 3D audio feature, such as the Pulse headset.
@whatever-156 because quite a lot of it has been upgraded
Yeah I was just going to pass up the extra $20 for this. Now with the video and additional information on the game it a must have for me. I am picking up the Ultimate Edition and no long worried about $20 more. It includes all the DLC also something I never pay extra for.
@carlos82 It remains, at it's core, a game designed with the inferior ps4 in mind, the graphical "jump" doesn't even constitute all this hype, its slightly better but thats it, the ps5 should be able to easily run it at 60fps
Ouch, that looks a bit stuttery for 60. Either it's struggling to hit that or the frame pacing is a bit of a mess.
@LiamCroft But any headset is capable of doing 3D Audio - that's my point. Is Sony trying to pull this crap that only specific headphones can do 3D Audio? I don't want to buy their $100 Pulse 3D headphones when I have a perfectly good gaming headset (RIG 400).
There is no defending this one if that's the case. Sure, Sony's Pulse 3D headset might be the "best" headset for 3D Audio, but it shouldn't be the "only" headset for 3D Audio - like when the Platinum headset on PS4 was the "only" way to get 3D Audio via PS4.
By comparison - Window Sonic for Headphones (free), Dolby Atmos for Headphones ($15), and DTS:X for Headphones ($20) on Windows/Xbox aren't headphone-specific. They work even with cheap earbuds.
@GamingFan4Lyf I think you're reading into this a little bit too much.
@DonJorginho I think you have to compare them side by side then. It looks a lot better than the PS4 game I think. Not worth double dipping, but it's definitely an improvement. Ray tracing and the likes also eat up quite a bit of processing power.
@Mafia_Man19 It also says they can be turned on. So SHOW them to hammer home the point of how vastly improved it is.
@carlos82 I'ma ware. I'm saying that point, seeing how fast it is, would be a "wow" moment for everyone who has played it.
Seeing the same game, but prettier is one thing. Seeing it FUNCTIONALLY improved to such a vast degree, that's something else entirely.
It looks great, but has two problems. One, stop making him like Tom Holland. That face just looks wrong.
2. Sell this as a stand-alone, instead of some anti-consumer that's just ridiculous.
The different face is a bit strange but who cares? You barely see it anyways. Main thing is the game world looks stunning and is running perfectly. It looks brilliant and is really tempting me to double dip...
@LiamCroft I hope so because 3D audio is amazing - it truly does take games to the next level in the immersion. Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider were just amazing experiences with Atmos for Headphones.
@LiamCroft he does have a point man, 3D audio was locked on the PS series of headsets on the PS4, when it's perfectly fine to run on anything. Don't think that's being too suspicious when there's a precedent.
What about the puddles man?
This really doesn't look very different from the original. It runs at 60fps and adds raytracing. That should have been a cheap and easy patch to throw out there. Maybe textures are improved, maybe they did some new models....but if they did, they probably shouldn't have.
I was half tempted to shell out an extra $20 over MM to get the upgraded version, but after seeing it in motion, I'm not sure that's actually worth it. It looks like the same game I already have running on a better spec machine for $20. If I put it side by side I'm sure I'd notice more difference, but if you have to run them side by side, DF style to feel you're getting a downgrade by not having it, I'm not sure what the point is.
For all the people saying it looks a lot better, I'm wondering how many are comparing it to OG PS4 or to PS4 Pro, where it looks.....basically like this minus some niceties here and there.
Arrrgh, looks almost the same to me lol
This is not enough to buy the game again tbh
@DrClayman I've just watched it from a different source and it was silky smooth and looked gorgeous
@NEStalgia I've played it on the Pro but this looked much better when blown up on the TV, on Pro its blurry all round the edges of the screen, not so here and there were more reflections and pushed out further. I think when someone does a real comparison there's much more then it first appears
What the article doesn't mention is that players of the PS4 version of MM, once they upgrade they can get the option to pay for Spider-Man Remastered through an in game menu. So it isn't looked behind the ultimate edition.
@carlos82 Maybe. Hopefully DF will analyze the trailer as they did with Souls. I play on a monitor in my face, and haven't seen soft edges at 4k with the Pro version..it looks amazing....and I'm a hardcore pixel peeper....I made a fuss over resolution mode vs performance mode on X1X over Forza Horizon's grass and shrubs..... I'd love to find a reason to think this is worth the upgrade money, but so far without the side by side, it looks pretty identical to me (plus raytracing, but I'm not paying $20 on principle for a raytracing patch every other company hands out for free....)
@AdamNovice Huh? So if you own PS4 Spiderman.....if you buy PS5 MM....get Remastered? But not if you buy PS4 MM unless you get Ultimate? Or.... sigh why did they have to make this so confusing. I mean I have PS4 Spiderman. If I could buy PS4 MM and end up getting PS5 Spiderman and MM for $50 that would be great....but I can't....that doesn't...I can't even.....what?
@carlos82 yeah, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. It's also not quite release yet, so it could just be minor things that could be sorted out before launch.
It is fantastic. I will gladly pay extra cash for this and because I love Spider-Man.
