In case you were wondering, yes: Immortals Fenyx Rising on PlayStation 4 is going the free PS5 upgrade route.
The Ubisoft open world adventure is the latest title to follow this trend, allowing owners of the current gen game to swap to the shinier next-gen version at no extra cost. This confirmation comes from the box art for the game, which sports a new 'PS5 Upgrade Available' banner. It's hardly a surprise, given Ubisoft has committed to the same approach for other major titles, like Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and the newly announced Riders Republic.

The new name for this is awful, I much prefer Gods and Monsters. Nice that they’re giving the free upgrade, always welcome.
@Fenbops they need to fire the focus group tester who decided to change the name. It is truly awful. Don't like the art direction change either, I much preferred the desaturated colour palette from the reveal with the splashes of over saturated colour, and the almost brush stroke artistic look. I guess I'm not the target audience for this game, which is fine.
This may be a stupid question but if I buy a ps4 version and upgrade to 5 can I play on both systems?
The games previews (on youtube) is actually good, make me hyped for this game, I'll play this on my new ps5 later this year
Name is silly, but this game looks pretty awesome.
@SirAngry yeah I don’t like the change in direction either. YouTube previews have been positive but it doesn’t look like it’s for me.
Should we refer to it as Immortal Fenyx Rising Ultimate then?
The upgrade banner is a really good news though. It acts as a guarantee to avoid issues like control and allows the Dev to keep strong sales when a console reaches the end of life. I know I won't wait for the ps5 to get this one
Ubisoft has always been a pretty great company, that is to say they don't riddle their games with Pay to win mechanics or price gouging
@vegeta11 I'm 95% sure that's a yes
@GilbertXI this is where I find myself and that's why I was like this is probably a stupid question.
I feel like the game was sabotaged by the marketing team. The old name and look was way better.
@vegeta11 Nah, I'm glad you asked because I was asking myself the same thing. It's kind of strange that we don't have any confirmation yet on this... but on the other hand we don't even know the price of the PS5 lol
@Turbodream @vegeta11 Yes! All the PS5 upgrade does is also let you play on PS5 with the PS5 version.
You will still have access to the original PS4 version, which can be played on your PS4.
