"This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore." When you read that classic PS1 phrase, you know you're in for something pretty special. The early Resident Evil and Silent Hill titles coined the term, and now upcoming survival horror game Tormented Souls is bringing it back on PlayStation 4. This scary experience is said to feature a modernized control scheme and more dynamic camera, but it'll retain everything you remember and love about those classics. It's due for release in 2021 and we recommend you check out the announcement trailer above.
While investigating the disappearance of twin girls at Winterlake—something terrible happens to Caroline Walker. Waking in the dead of night, naked in a bathtub – and hooked up to some decrepit medical equipment, Caroline must fight for her life as she explores the halls of an abandoned Mansion turned hospital.
Search the seemingly abandoned mansion for clues and puzzle pieces while staying alert at all times. This sounds right up our alley. What's your first impression of Tormented Souls? Spook us in the comments below.

Now this looks right up my alley. Used to be terrified of horror games but went on a mad binge this year and I’m loving them. This looks fantastic.
Creepy. Usually I'm not into horror, but this might be one of those special games that I can make an exception for.
“ Waking in the dead of night, naked in a bathtub – and hooked up to some decrepit medical equipment ” Hey, come on, we’ve all been there.......yeah?
Cool, I hope it’s as good as it looks 👍
Cool. All I need is confirmation that it has actual combat instead of run and hide gameplay, and I'm fully on board.
The enemy in the trailer makes me think that this is going to be yet another take on the Clock Tower formula, like Remothered. Which... is fine, but it's not quite the return to classic survival horror game design a lot of us want.
That brief snippet of the enemy reminded me of The Suffering. A PS2 gem IMO.
This looks really interesting.
@Ralizah I'm going to try and get those questions answered for you.
@LiamCroft I appreciate that.
Looks awesome!
Definately intrigued! Now we just need a PS1 style JRPG with pre rendered backgrounds and random battles.
@Ralizah
I second that. Looks old-school, which is great in my book. Unless it's a cat and mouse kind of horror game- if so, I'm out.
This look like my wet dreams come true!
@AhabSpampurse The Suffering is one of my favorite classic games! It was cheesy fun in a lot of places (one antagonist: Dr. Killjoy), but the sound design was scary and superb.
I remember that my wife was traveling for a week for a graduate school project when I was playing this game. At one point, the sounds from the game freaked me out so much that I turned on every light in the house and made sure our big dog was inside with me before I was able to go to sleep.
I have not thought about that game much in years, but it is a good one!
@invictus4000 I had a lot o fun as a kid with those. 😃👍
This game looks messed up i love it.
Looks great. I too welcome an actual fighting mechanism. I've had way too many "let's make you feel helpless with the cheapest possible way and not include any weapons" experiences.
Sign. Me. Up.
This looks like a great throwback to the glory days of survival horror
@Westernwolf4 yeah, I remember loving it at the time and haven't been back to it since... its probably not aged well but I respected them massively for what they were trying to do with it. Good to find a chap after my own heart
Never could get into Resident Evil, unfortunately a pass for me. I'd kill for another horror game with Alien Isolation's atmosphere.
Is it real survival horror or the avoid one unkillable enemy while looking at different lengths of wire garbage that's been so popular lately?
@jacobia Hmmmm... But how long before the cosplay version of Caroline gets made into another type of media titled 'Tormented Holes'? ~_~
Yes please.
Looks very promising

@LiamCroft You're beautiful. That sounds perfect. I really, really hope this turns out well.
