Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion are two of the PlayStation 5’s hottest releases, but you can save a significant chunk of change if you purchase them on the PlayStation 4 first. Courtesy of Ubisoft’s free PS4 to PS5 upgrade scheme, you’ll be able to grab current-gen copies and then play the next-gen versions on your spangly new system.

And according to Amazon listings, purchasing for the PS4 will save you around $10 compared to the PS5. Both games are currently priced at $59.99 for the PS5, while the PS4 versions will cost you $49.99. This strikes us as a no-brainer, although it’s worth keeping in mind that if you do plump up for the physical versions of these games, you will need a PS5 with a disc drive to play them.
As part of the product listings, Amazon has also revealed the box art for both titles. The white PS5 banner is prevalent at the top of both cases, and while it has proved a little divisive, we reckon it works relatively well with the artwork here. Will you be buying either of these games, and which platform will you be playing them on? Save some money in the comments section below.

i'm still wondering if the upgrades actually offer the full next gen experience or if you still need to buy the actuall next versions for that and the upgrades are "boosted up ps4 versions"
Consider me interested when they do this for the digital version. I'm not buying a physical PS4 copy of either of these games.
@LiamCroft keep in mind, disc is always better. ☺️
@LiamCroft and you can resell it.
@djlard At this point in time and the generation, hard disagree.
yeah let's not have the disc vs digital discussion yet again.
it always derails topics sadly.
but i'll get atleast 1 ps5 hard copy just so i can have a ps5 case in the (collection) .
I'm going digital next gen but it's a nice offer regardless
The sad state of gaming in 2020, people keep trying to sell us the same fracking thing twice, three times, whatever works...
@LiamCroft hey bud do u think it will also have 2 saperate trophy list meaning 2 platinums?
@pimpjuice i suspect that if you upgrade your ps4 version to the ps5 version it will share the same list with OG ps4 list, but if you buy the actuall ps5 version it will have it's own list. but ofcourse it will be the same trophies as the current gen version.
@jdv95
Exactly, I'm not sure I trust I'm getting the real next-gen version with these 'upgrades' so I'm just going to hold off on a few cross-gen games and get the PS5 versions when they launch.
@pimpjuice I'd expect the PS4 and PS5 versions to share a single Trophy list.
Of course this doesn't seem to apply to us Brits, or anyone who isn't in the US.
PS5 can presumably install the game directly off the PS5 disc whereas if you get the PS4 version you need to use the Internet for the upgrade. Without Internet access he would just be stuck playing in backwards compatibility mode.
@Starkei All i'll say in the matter is that last week, albeit with a slightly heavy heart, i did resell about 45 mega drive, nintendo ds, and various playstation family titles. I now have more than enough to buy a ps5
Also Price glitch!! You can preorder the PS5 Gold Edition of Far Cry 6 on Amazon US for $60 right now, MSRP is $110. Includes season pass and all that, wont be charged until it ships, take advantage!!!
Preordered both a while ago from Amazon. Playing them on XSX.
I still would love to read more on how this upgrade stuff will work for PS5, since I’m interested in Kena and will potentially get it for PS4.
Will there be two-way save sharing like on Xbox? Will it even have save migration to next gen? Are trophies shared? Will upgrades be time limited? Will all of this apply to digital?
@LiamCroft hundred people, hundred opinions... ☺️
i'll be saving at least £90 by not buying them on either console.
Wow, very nice. Why physical is King.
PS4 Digital version on PSN is still $59. Same way they still want $59 for Odyssey on PSN.
Digital only consoles are basically a trap. Anyway, Day 1 for me. Loved Odyssey.
@LiamCroft ps4 and ps5 trophies will be separate; was the same for ps3 and ps4;p also the ps5 will have a new ui
@johnny30 No it wasn’t, a lot of early PS4 games shared Trophy lists with PS3 games.
With the upcoming Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed & Far Cry gold editions costing around £80 on PS4 alone. I think when i do get a PS5 I am going to hold off for a sale of each game. As £240 for 3 games is to much for me.
@johnny30 there are just as many games that share trophy lists as those that don't especially in the beginning. Having a new UI really doesn't have much to do with it honestly.
@LiamCroft Right, I'm just looking forward to what these games will be like running on the ps5. The load times are practically non existent on optimised games.
@YeoSprings Especially Ubisoft games.
@LiamCroft - Cross gen Ubisoft games had 2 lists. Black Flag and Watch Dogs on PS3 were separate from the PS4 versions.
@Jimmy_G_Buckets. Nah physical is way better.word up son
This article makes no sense. Ubisoft already said all these crossgen games will have the same cost om PS4 and PS5. IF they do a pricehike it will be on the games release AFTER the launchwindow.
https://venturebeat.com/2020/07/22/ubisoft-is-keeping-the-60-price-for-next-gen-games-in-2020/amp/
So this article is a lie. Not what I expected from Push Square to be honest...
@Zeke68 you missed the part where Amazon is selling the ps4 version for $10 off so no, the article is not a lie.
To put it simply:
Both the PS4/PS5 versions regular price is $60. However Amazon is selling the ps4 version for only $50. So by buying the ps4 version and upgrading to the ps5 version you would save yourself $10 as opposed to just buying the PS5 version outright.
Does that make sense? Read before commenting/accusing
@johnny30 @LiamCroft @Shigurui It was on a game by game basis up to the dev.
Tales from the Borderland, FFXIV: Realm Reborn, and Sherlock Holmes: Crime and Punishment, for example, share trophy lists between generations.
Assassins Creed IV and Watch Dogs, on the other hand, didn’t. Given that was UBisofts approach, I would expect the same from it this time around. But it also means I expect no save file syncing.
@Zeke68 did you actually read the article? Because the point is that Amazon is offering the PS4 versions of these game’s for $10 off, but not doing the same for the PS5 versions.
It’s not the MSRP, it’s Amazon giving you a way to save $10.
Tempting deal indeed, but if I wait 2-3+ years, both games with all DLC will be $20-$30 each.
@Tharsman - I know it differed from game to game but this is an article about Ubisoft games, that's why I specifically mentioned past Ubisoft titles.
@jdv95 Not hard to figure out, they're making them for PS4/X1 and its just going to be patched upgrades for the PS5/SeX...They're not making 2 versions of the same game.
