Not one but two The Last of Us titles cracked the UK sales charts this week, as The Last of Us Remastered rebounded on the back of its PlayStation 4 successor’s record-breaking success. Joel and Ellie’s inaugural adventure saw an 82 per cent rise in week-on-week sales in order to secure 9th place, while the sequel held on to first position.
The Last of Us: Part II’s sales did decrease 80 per cent week-on-week, although this is common for releases with enormous debuts; Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End suffered a similar decline of 78 per cent in its second week. It’s worth stressing that all of this data accounts for physical sales only; we don’t have access to digital sales, but we do know that The Last of Us: Part II is Sony’s fastest-selling game ever globally.
Elsewhere, remastered PlayStation 2 platformer SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated debuted in third position in the British charts this week, while simulation racer Assetto Corsa Competizione entered in 12th place. We’ve included all of the relevant data below, so have a browse and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Well deserved. Truly outstanding game!
What the heck is Bravely Second doing here?
@Orshudei i'm one of them. Clearance at Argos for £2.49 👍 couldn't resist at that price. Sadly all the other 3ds games they were selling off seemed impossible to get hold of.
I'm also responsible for one of those LoU remastered sales. I never planned to pick it up, as i had already played it on PS3, but it didn't take long after i started TLoU2 to get hooked on that world again.
@Orshudei I can only assume it's because of the sequel announcement and trailers. So hype for the new game has causes older titles to spike. Like how TLOU1 is up there.
Though the timing and position is still baffling.
@Rob_230 Ah now it makes sense! ☺️ It just seemed so random
@Orshudei Argos was selling the game for £3 or so, was all sold out in minutes! (LOL sorry was late with this know a mate who got 14 to sell lol)
@Rob_230 Holy moly, that’s one hell of a bargain. No wonder it’s made it into the charts!
Nearing the end now and what a ride its been, so happy its doing so well as its an incredible game.
@Chives Scalpers.
I just made my way to the island. This game gets better by the sec. They truly make you understand you should not get comfortable 😅
Loving All of it. Glad it is doing so well.
Ok... so what are the numbers? If Bravely Second got... uhhh... second place due to a clearance sale from Argos, how many copies could have been sold there? On top of that, how many copies of all games is the public buying overall? Is this why GTAV, FIFA, and COD are always up there?
I wonder how many have played the second without playing the original then? Or maybe like me they're just going back to play the original game again. I rarely bother with Platinum trophies but for TLOU2 I'll be going for it and I want to do a run on hard mode as I've heard there are a lot more infected on it, sounds like fun 😆
@Orshudei haha yeah totally. Seems amazing that sales from one store could create a large enough spike for the game to place second! I am assuming that there can't have been too much stock which suggests that in order to place in the top 10 at the moment you dont need to sell too many copies. Its all i can suggest seeing GTA V still up there 😅
I got the Remastered for 2$ from a clueless seller. Best bargain in a while.
Currently playing it.
@carlos82 You have not played the first one?
There are way more infected in the game and it is more about survival while reaching your final goal.
@Chives they should've limited it to 1 or 2 copies per customers to stop this kind of thing happening.
@nessisonett Totally. Looking forward to trying it out as i have heard good things about the series (echoes of final fantasy 9). I've never seen the price drop befpre. Its often worth keeping an eye on argos prices as when they want to clear stock, they often do heavily discount. I have managed to get a few bargins over the years!
@East76landS Agreed. They had loads of clearance stock on things like fire emblem, meteroid, dragon quest 7 was down to 1.50! But completely sold out everywhere frustratingly.
They were selling the limited edition of bravely second for 3.99 which i assume is worth much more online.
@Zuljaras Nah man. I've played them back to back, TLOU2 takes the edge. Encounters are way bigger, as you tend to face 10-15 man squads easily, whereas the first had smaller groups. I've definitely taken out more infected in the second game. And it feels like there's more variety in terms of infected types as well, which is good, so it doesn't feel like you're facing the same enemies every time.
@Zuljaras yeah, I said I was going back to play it again, to refresh a few things about the story. With the new game I think because you're much better equipped (through much better game mechanics) the infected seemed less of a threat on standard mode at least. Some have suggested there are a lot more of both them and human enemies on the harder difficulties, so I fancy giving it a go like that
Over halfway through Part II now and it's still an absolutely amazing game.
There is no colon in the title though and it's unnecessary. It's not The Godfather: Part II is it?
😉
@Octane yeah for me as I've said above, I think because the gameplay is better you're more than capable of taking on larger groups, so it sort of balances itself out especially when Abby can take them down with her bare hands, which is a lot of fun
People want to remeber a better time when it didnt suck.
@starbuck2212 Part II doesn't suck though, indeed it's one of the greatest games of this gen.
😜
@Kirbyboy92 Part II is a great game, haters should accept this and get over themselves.
And some of you need to stop comparing everything to Star Wars.
🤦
@Kirbyboy92 yup they chickened out and made a lesser 3rd entry in the trilogy, The Last Jedi was great and so is TLoU2, some people are just a tad bit unhinged when it comes to clinging to fictional characters and neither that film or TLoU2 deserve the level of hate thrown at them. Not everyone has to like everything, but most sensible people just move onto something else they will like!
@Logmein yeah that makes no sense at all
@starbuck2212 tell us how you really feel lol. It must suck when you’re in a minority having to see all the praise and articles about tlou part 2 breaking sales records
@Kirbyboy92 when someone brings up The Last Jedi I already know the type of person they are so I can thankfully ignore them in the future
@dark_knightmare2 That just depends what room you're in. I'm aware its a bit of a circle jerk here but that won't stop me sharing my opinion.
@dark_knightmare2 I do the same with someone who likes the TLJ. Shows the level of quality they'll accept and how they'll excuse anything.
@starbuck2212 I don’t even particularly care for The Last Jedi It’s just alright imo so what are you on about.
Bravely Second is a surprise, presumably due to that Argos sale. Though I wasn't one of those people, I did grab WarioWare Gold in the same sale for a few quid.
I still haven't finished TLoU2 but so far I'm liking it even more than the first game. Quality stuff.

80% Drop. Guess word of mouth is starting to set in.
@Kirbyboy92 Or it's a bad game that a lot of people are seeing and are telling their friends about. No mistake, this is the Last Jedi of video games.
@starbuck2212 don't even start complaining about the last of us 2
It's easy to understand why the first game pops up again! Still have my copy for PS3, recently I checked it's value on the momox app (reselling videogames and books) and it's value tripled!
che che che...
Btw... GTA 5. I think there was only one or two weeks where it didn't show up since it's 2013 (!!) release. LOL. Keeps on giving!
@SimonB “ which is a heavy fall, but not unusual for a game that sold as strongly as this one did in its first week, when it eclipsed Uncharted 4's debut to become the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive.
By comparison, Uncharted 4 dropped 78% in sales during its second week. It's worth noting that this is purely boxed sales, and digital download sales have increased significantly since Uncharted 4 was released in 2016, therefore comparisons between the two games need to be taken in that context.”
If you’re going to mention something like that mention it in its true context. Not one that fits your false narrative.
@Kirbyboy92 only time will tell. I think it’ll outsell it though personally.
It’s an excellent game.
@Kirbyboy92 you may not have noticed, but the vast majority of people who are saying bad things about the game haven’t even played it.
If you don’t like the story but have played it that’s totally ok, but that’s not what’s happening for the most part.
Everyone I know that’s played it all agree it’s excellent.
@Kirbyboy92 you know people that have played it and didn’t like the game, or didn’t like the story. There’s a difference.
The vast majority of “reviews” that were put up on metacritic were just haters and it’s obvious.
@Kirbyboy92 we’ll see if that “consensus” holds true. Spoiler: it won’t.
@Kirbyboy92 wait and see.
@Logmein "extreme leftists"
Dear sweet Jesus. Some of you guys really need to get some real-world experience outside your bubble, because literally nothing in this game shows an "extreme leftist" worldview.
@Sondheimist There are lesbians in it. That's enough for some!
🤦
It's an unbelievable game, the story is actually really good whilst the world itself is both beautiful and very deadly. The combat is much improved from the first one and when played right it can be really tense. Oh and the sound design and music? Outstanding, both are used expertly to add to the atmosphere and to create it.
It's a game you think about even when you're not playing it. Replaying favourites scenes and character moments.
I don't get the hate, I really don't.
TLOU remastered plays brilliantly on PS4 and PS4 pro. Solid 60fps on pro and only minor dips on base model.
I'm going to try and Platinum it. It'll take me a couple more playthroughs.
Great game, but why is it so divisive?
I genuinely cannot understand it, is it the violence? As it's not that bad.. (seen much worse, walking dead for example) I think people are just very hard to please, if those spoilers never came out I honestly think it could be completely different.
@Col_McCafferty 100% agree. Few lesbians and a trans and that's it.. people hate it, a game is more than equality, those just represent real life relations, everything about the game is impeccable and better than the 1st
@EquiinoxGII The violence is overstated but there's plenty of equivalent violence in lots of others games, for example in The Witcher 3 you see enemies being chopped in two, in AC Origins your lead character can end up drenched in blood and in RDR2 you often see the results of injuries sustained by gunfire.
Part II isn't any worse, I mean some of it can be graphic but often that can depend on how good your aim is!
As for the story. I really like it, people forget how simple the story actually is in the first one. I'm not saying Part II is better but it's definitely making more of an impression on me.
@Col_McCafferty I know, tell me about it... The story in the first was simple and very unoriginal.
No difference here really. The gameplay is what sells it along with the tone and music.
@Toypop You're going to be waiting an awful long time then!
Just buy it, it's bloody brilliant and brilliantly bloody.
😜
@Col_McCafferty I loved the first game the story was brilliant for me. But it where the voiceactors chemestry and acting what brought the game too the next for me.
@starbuck2212 it’s almost every room but it’s ok you’ll find the few who don’t feel the same and you can have your circle jerk that give you your confirmation bias
@dark_knightmare2 Lol unlike you I don't require a single person to agree with me. The opinion of the sheep is usless to the shepard lol.
