Update: The EA Star Wars Twitter account has now confirmed that Star Wars: Squadrons is real and an official announcement trailer will drop on Monday at 8am PT / 4pm BST. We will, of course, cover the reveal here on Push Square when the time arrives.
Original story: Whoops, the Microsoft Store has leaked another game ahead of schedule. Adding to the Mafia Trilogy and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, the storefront hosted an advertisement for a title named Star Wars: Squadrons for a short period of time.
It's very safe to assume that this is Project Maverick, which accidentally leaked a bit of key art a few months ago. Spotted by Gematsu, the new image you see above prominently features X-wing starfighters as well as TIE fighters, suggesting that this is an experience focused on space battles. It's developed by EA Motive and we should hear more about this project in the near future. It's not yet known if this is a next-gen PlayStation 5 title.
VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb has added: "It has a single-player campaign that is a few hours long. But the focus is on multiplayer space combat."

Ok this could be brilliant. I adore the Rogue Squadron games so if this is a reboot, I’m definitely on board!

If they can nail the flight mechanics, I'd be down. I loved the Warhakw/Starhawk aireal combat.
The focus on multiplayer alarms me... Space combat like Rogue Squadron sounds a must buy... Its from EA.
It'll launch with a short 4 hour campaign and be online focused. They say they'll add bots and offline play at a later date, it'll never happen and they'll move on.
How long before EA lose the Star Wars licence again? I can't wait for someone else to pick them up
@pip_muzz I think they have it till 2023. IMO Disney should've licensed the franchise on a game-per-game basis, meaning any dev can have a shot at a Star Wars game.

@vegeta11 yes I did play fallen order and really enjoyed it. Though it being a non frostbite engine game makes me think Respawn were responsible for that moment of greatness and not EA
If it was more story based it could be good. Online!? Na pass. Probably the same as what battlefront can currently offer. This will flop.
I loved the free VR mission in Battlefront 1 so hopefully there's some VR support.
It's got mp and this is EA, so you know it will be littered with microtransactions. Hard pass

@Agramonte No not yet, but its on my list after seeing it on Digital Foundries recommended games list on YouTube. I Hope PSVR on PS5 is as good as PC this time round.
One of my earliest gaming memories is playing rogue squadron on my N64. I loved using the X/Y wing.
I was interested until I saw the major focus was gonna be multiplayer.
Hard pass, will wait for this to hit $10 or free with PS Plus.
