Ubisoft will have the next instalment in its Assassin's Creed franchise ready for this holiday to coincide with the launch of the PlayStation 5. That we can be almost certain of, and it looks like the French publisher is getting ready to spill the beans on this Viking-themed departure. One reliable insider has tweeted that news on the next entry will be coming soon.
Shinobi602, who runs communications at Wushu Studios and is known as a trustworthy source alongside the likes of Jason Schreier and Daniel Ahmad, said that we're "almost there" when asked about the next Assassin's Creed title.
It's a fairly vague response, but with where the industry is headed right now, we can see some sort of announcement taking place next month. Rumblings of multiple Xbox Series X events are doing the rounds while Sony will have to talk about the PS5 once more sooner or later. A next-gen version of Assassin's Creed would suit one of these console reveals perfectly.
As for the game itself, it is all but certain to feature Vikings. Assassin's Creed Ragnarok is a supposed name, but that has since been debunked. Whatever it's called or the time period it features, however, we're very excited to learn more. How are your hype levels doing? Show us your hidden blade in the comments below.

Not played an AC since Unity so might jump back in if it looks half decent...
If ubisoft release stable 60 fps patch for assassin creed odyssey ps5 version, I'm going to uninstall my pc version of the game and buy it on ps5 😃
@Dodoo Oof, the last two put the rest of the series to shame imo. They’re full proper RPGs now so you should give them a go!
i want proper parkour like unity but if Vikings I cant see this happening
@wiiware Why stop at 60 FPS? They can patch much more than that.
The question is, will they?
After Origins and Odyssey, I can't wait to see what the devs do with this one.
Here's hoping for an amazing setting just like the Greek Isles of Odyssey was. I'd love the choice of a female protagonist again too. I'm optimistically excited.
@Dodoo Honestly, you haven't missed much.
Origins and ESPECIALLY Odyssey, have really mediocre writing in most of the main story and by the gods, there is soo much filler content they must have broken a record.
Gameplay is a hit and miss. Granted the series needed a gameplay change, but i doubt anyone asked to have gameplay mechanics and powers of a (literal) god instead of an Assassin.
That aside, both games offer great deal of exploration, even if it does end up a bit stale after a while and if you are looking for a sandbox games that will kill a LOT of your time, these two games will be right up your alley (so long as you keep you expectations in check as far as main/side quests go).
Also, don't expect much Assassins Creed story-related stuff in Odyssey until much...much later, and even that is quite small content that makes a person ask ''Why is it even called Assassins Creed Odyssey?''
I imagine most new game reveals are going to still be around early June as most studios plan to have these ready for E3. Even with that not taking place I'd imagine the work to make these reveals would take a similar time-frame.
I've loved the last time AC games, I just would like it if sneaking up on someone and sticking a knife in their throat actually killed them. Maybe a bit more assassin like a not a who has the higher attack number game. Try and find some middle ground between the old style and new perhaps.
The recent Assassin's Creed games have been very good, just make its systems more integral to the world and story and this could be amazing
Odyssey was fantastic, can’t wait for this
They had me at Vikings!
I would like next one to be set in the height of the Roman Empire, perhaps playing a Centurion on a secret mission to assassinate the corrupt higher ups. The whole of Europe would be open to explore, and one of the hats is of a Cheetah skin and head.
Lots of potential there!
It's always fun to murder a whole garrison (in game, never tried it IRL and not tempted to do so). I just hope it will be a little less stat based than Odyssey, but with the current trend I expect ubisoft to double down on RPG elements.
@DominatorV93 Because most tv only support 60 fps? I won't complain if ubisoft add 4k and RT support though, but 60 fps should be the priority
@Grimwood ''60fps is already pathetic and useless''
Interesting, in what way is it pathetic an useless?
I haven't played an Assassin's Creed since 2 until just recently. I picked up Odyssey for sheltering at home, and have been really enjoying it. So, naturally curious about the viking themed one. Of course I will probably wait and pick up the gold edition for $25 like I did this one.
@wiiware I meant why only stop at FPS upgrade?
Things like better resolution, AA, draw distances, textures (overall graphical fidelity for that matter), NPC count etc... all of that can be improved by a patch-upgrade.
That is what makes a true Backwards-compatibility, otherwise people might aswell wait for PS4 emulators (that are allready in the works).
i hope, it is less grindy and has more focus on everything.
Hoping for a game more like Origins, Oddysey was a piss poor Assassin's Creed game and was just a poor man's Witcher 3.
Origins was the perfect balance of an AC game with RPG mechanics.
@Dodoo Origins and Odyssey are a must imho. Quite a departure from the classic AC games but that's a good thing.
Can't wait to see what they have done with the Vikings theme!Absolutely love Assassins Creed games and I'm super excited for this!Just please don't have that totally boring and zero personality Layla Hassan character ruin it..
@Its_Carl_Y-all They're both expected to release this year.
@DominatorV93 The game is pretty "heavy" on pc, I usually get 60 fps if I lowered the detail on some other games (I've got core i7 cpu and nvidia 1660 ti) but for oddyssey it's really hard to get 60 fps when alexios is in the city, if ubisoft upgraded others graphics effect like RT, texture, etc, I fear ps5 will get 30 fps again on console.
@wiiware ''The game is pretty "heavy" on pc, I usually get 60 fps if I lowered the detail on some other games (I've got core i7 cpu and nvidia 1660 ti)''
I still can't believe people still use these comparisons like this. It would make sense if consoles were just low-mid tier PC-s, but generation after generation it was stated (and proven with games) many times that this is far from the truth.
Considering we allready have much more demanding games (and better looking games) than Odyssey on PS4 alone, i don't see any reason why they couldn't upgrade those minimal things PS4 was missing on PS5 while keeping the 60 FPS (with a LOT of wiggle room still left).
Also another thing to keep in mind is, Ubisoft is well-known by now for really bad PC optimization efforts.
And before someone states that consoles run Odyssey on low PC settings(Source; Digital Foundry):
PS4
AA- Adaptive 30
Shadows- Medium
Env.Detal- High
Env.Textures- Medium
Terrain- High
Clutter- Medium
DOF- Medium/High
Vollumentric Clouds- Medium

Granted the base models, really have some FPS issues in Greater Athens and when going too far with Ikaros.
@DominatorV93 I do hope so, it will be so nice to play 60 fps games on console and big tv rather than on pc with 27inch monitor.
@wiiware Let's be real here, none of the things i mentioned (even the 60 FPS) will be upgraded for PS5.
In theory everything is possible, but unfortunately reality is a bitch (pardon my phrasing).
@DominatorV93 I really hope ubisoft patched the game, I like the game but I won't play it on ps4 (it's choppy and not smooth like others 30 fps games like horizon zd, spidey ps4, and ff7r) and I don't want to buy $500 video card just to play one game lol.
@slampog @DominatorV93 @nessisonett yeah thanks for the feedback chaps. I’ve nearly caved in on Origins and Odyssey seeing as they’re cheap now and lots of people have said good things about them.
Though while they’re probably good games for what they are, I can’t help but think the series has lost its way from what it originally was - a stealthy assassin game! I might still pick them up but I was pretty burnt out on the whole Ubisoft formula (AC, Far Cry and Watch Dogs) so have been hesitant...
@Dodoo ''Though while they’re probably good games for what they are, I can’t help but think the series has lost its way from what it originally was - a stealthy assassin game!''
And you are completely right for thinking that.
@wiiware Best keep your expectations low, that way you will never be dissapointed like me
So I was thinking on catching up with the latest AC later down the line, but I'm undecided on whether to pick up Origins or Odyssey.
Which would you say is the less "grindy", number-based one?
Cause I personally don't enjoy that kind of gameplay that much.
@clvr Origin is less grindy compared to odyssey, but gameplay and story wise I think odyssey is the better of the two.
Origin story is boring revenge story like watchdog 1, I can't get attached to the story because it's clear the protagonist family is just cannon fodder for the revenge story.
I was just wondering when we d see articles about Shinobi saying 'almost there' in a tweet reply to some guy.
🤔
Really looking forwards to the next assassins creed game. Odyssey was my most played game this gen. so much to do. I really like gta 5, but after the game was done, the game was empty, nothing else to do. But with Odyssey, there’s so much content that just keeps its hook in me. Even after playing other games, I keep finding myself just going back to Odyssey, just to explore the amazing world that Ubisoft made. Fantastic game that offers an insane amount of content.
@wiiware thanks for the reply, much appreciated! 😄
Wow, that would be fantastic.
Last I had played was Black Flag but came back for Origins and later Kass/Odyssey made me a fan again.
Playing through AC Origins right now. I’m having a really good time. It’s quite amazing what the little PS4 can churn out, graphically it can look amazing at time and the world is huge. It is starting to drag, as far as narrative goes though. The side quests are really hit or miss, and I’m starting to just skip a lot of them. It does have me really curious about Odyssey though. Not sure I’ll be able to play them back-to-back though. I still probably have another 30 hours or more of Origins and I expect by then I’ll be at the saturation point for a while.
This new Viking one really needs to do something different and progressive I think. I’d like to see the creed lore ramp up and the narrative be a little more focused and interesting. I imagine with Vikings there is going to be a lot of ship travel like Black Flag, which I didn’t care for.
@wiiware I dont care about 60fps. I am fine with 30fps. Doesn't bothered me at all.
@Steel76 Already tried it 2 times with tomb raider 2013 (on ps3) and gears 5, the result is the same, I don't want windows anywhere near my tv. It's a hassle to set it up everytime I want to play games.
@azoreseuropa The problem isn't about 30 fps, but the game runs at choppy 30 fps unlike smooth 30 fps like horizon zd, spider-man, rdr2, etc. I want better games performance (compared to ps4) if I buy ps5.
Yeah - excited to find out more. Not that I’ll be jumping to buy it immediately - I really enjoyed Origins (one of the few platinums I have and didn’t feel too grindy to achieve it) but still have Odyssey sitting in my backlog....
Yeah...female protagonist again please. Very exciting, can't wait.
