Following on from the news that Sony had registered a trademark for PlayStation 5, or PS5, in Switzerland, the company has now nailed down trademarks in the US, UK, New Zealand, and Australia. Obviously this news doesn't come as a huge surprise, but it's still a surefire sign that things are moving forward.
Trademarks can sometimes point towards an imminent announcement or influx of information on a certain product, and with the PS5 reveal event heavily rumoured to be happening this month, this could be an indicator that it's not far off. As per usual, though, we'll need to wait for official word from Sony before we all get too excited.

Sorry if this is a little daft, but haven't they left it a little late to file the trademark?
That PS5 logo picture you are using for the article does not look like the announced one - the 5 is too square
like @OmegaStriver said, why wasn't this done earlier? Why haven't they done this like, for the next 10 ps (ps6, ps7, etc)? What if somebody would do that before them? Would they have to pay them to use the "ps5"?
