We've had several clues about what the PlayStation 5's controller may look like. Whether it's reports from Wired or directly from patents, the DualShock 5 has been described in pretty clear detail. According to the aforementioned publication, it looks very similar to the PS4's pad, which shouldn't come as a huge surprise. In the patent application, we can see this for ourselves. Despite some differences -- like the lack of a lightbar -- the PS5 controller is looking pretty familiar.
In this new 3D rendering from Italian artist Snoreyn, we get probably the best look yet at what to expect from the controller's design. Based on the images in the patent, this short video shows off the design from all angles. It's possible the final controller will look different, but this at least gives us a much clearer idea of the prototype. It features a larger touch pad and a bulkier design overall, which is in line with the patent.
Again, this shouldn't be taken as gospel, but it's cool to see this depiction regardless. If this is what the final PS5 controller looks like, would you be happy with it? What do you think? Tell us in the comments below.

@Michael_Madsen was just going to say I'll be a bit miffed if the back buttons aren't standard on the DS5. Seems weird to release the attachment this late in the ps4s life cycle then omit them at that beginning of the next gen. Hope we get more info soon!
I think we could see Sony release a Pro or Elite version of the PS5 controller with the paddles. In addition to the regular controller I mean.
I don't think it'll be quite that fat. Plus, where are the back buttons? 🤔😁
It's a little thicker than the DS4, however I like the look of it so far. Assuming this is relatively accurate I'm glad they're not straying far away from DS4.
I just want better batteries, and maybe paddle like that $30 accessories for ds4.
And better quality, my first ds4 make sound when I press L2, the left joystick on my other ds4 sometimes drift, only my third ds4 that I got from ps4 pro seems good and didn't have any problems.
@LemonHaze looks like something you would fly a space ship with. Pretty cool tho 👌👌
@Quintumply i have no need for something like that i don't play games that require it so it would just add bulk, it should come
separately for people who need the attachment.
@wiiware a better battery life is a must for the ps5 controller and i like the usb type C charging port too.
@LemonHaze 😜
@LemonHaze yeah i like that one better, it be great to have a mini screen.
@huyi Yeah usb-c is really convenient since nearly all new smartphone/gadget use it.
No screen on this one, I know some are hoping that the ds5 has one.
You don't need that big of an imagination...PS controllers always look the same.
USB-C? That's the most important improvement right there. Everything else I use uses C except my PS4 controller and the 6 year old tablet I use as an alarm clock.
I would hope they would only include the back programmable buttons if it doesn't increase the cost of the DS5 + they have to be detachable. In the end most people don't need those extra buttons. The main target are competitive gamers that play shooters. As a high rank Rocket League player they would be really useful for me. I wouldn't be surprise if they sold a more expensive controller with that feature. It is a niche market. I feel like people are getting too ahead of themselves thinking it will be an included feature on the next controller. I think it might be a hint that this feature will be available on a premium more costly DS5 controller instead.
