One of the more important aspects highlighted in Wired's exclusive deep dive into the PlayStation 5 was that the way we download and install games changes next generation. Instead of installing everything at once, the PS5 will let you select which pieces you'd like to play first.
Speaking with wired.com, Mark Cerny said: "Rather than treating games like a big block of data, we're allowing finer-grained access to the data." The website then goes on to clarify that you'll be able to install the single player portion of a game first, or opt to jump into multiplayer without downloading the solo portion of a game. Of course, you could leave either installing in the background while you jump into the latest and greatest that PS5 has to offer.
Alongside this news, Sony confirmed that its next-gen system will indeed be called PS5 and launches next year during the holiday season. Do you like this idea? Which would you prefer to install first? Let us know in the comments below.

I will install Singstar ultimate party main menu.
Then make sure the rest of the game is missing to stop my family using my PS5.
it's a great idea.
would save lots of install time BEFORE playing for SP focused games that have a MP part that some players may not be interested in.
would love to see a seperate MP trophy list with all next gen games aswell so that those are not needed anymore for the platinum of mostly SP games. (uncharted, red dead, etc)
Uncharted & The Last of Us Remastered already do this. Probably others. Good to see it will be more commonplace!
That’s a pretty great innovation. Installing games like The Show and Battlefront did get a bit boring after 3 hours of the install mini game.
Great to hear...guessing this will only affect ps5 stuff rather than ps4 b/c installs. Still, given the bloatware of the likes of a GTA/RDR online, this will be a handy feature next gen at least!
xbox one already supports this..started with the introduction of the X
@BowTiesAreCool dying light does that too.
@manu0
Sure. But it's still an Xbox.
Finally. Now games that have multiplayer that I have no interest in won't take tons of data on the console.
Oh, cool. I never play mp modes anyway, so this would be ideal for me.
I swear PS4 does the same thing lol in some games it asks what mode you want to try first.
So you can choose which part to install first, but can you choose to only install part of it?
For example, imagine that CoD:MW was a PS5 launch game... could I choose to install just the campaign, and ignore the MP completely?
@b1ackjack now we won't be forced to install the mp side of games anymore, it's a shame we can't choose to not install patches that contain useless data from mp too.
This was the kind of stuff that was supposed to drop this generation, so you could at least start your game whilst the rest of the game downloads. I haven't come across a single game that could do this beyond getting to the title screen...
I'm just gonna install cutscenes if I'm too lazy to play the game.
@manu0 if you owned a PS4 you would know it does that as well this is going to be a more advanced version of it I should think.
@AFCC it does that is how you know manu0 is here for the Xbox trolling.
@David187 oh yeah that is obvious. But I don't understand the article x)
Very good, I don't want to install multiplayer portion of the games since I usually play only the single player. I'm looking at you Doom ps4
FINAAAALLLLYYYYYYYYYY
Cool. A few PS4 games (namely COD I think) already have this as an option. I’m glad to see it’s gonna become a standard.
Single player only. No need for MP at all. Hopefully that is an option to save space.
Great idea, in theory it could save alot of people GBs/TBs of HDD space.
Who plays multiplayer today, anyway?
