This is one of those stories that you just couldn't make up. After finally sorting out all that Fallout 76 collector's edition bag nonsense, Bethesda's been hit with another wave of bad press thanks to a collectable Fallout 76 power armour helmet. The admittedly cool looking headgear first went on sale back in June at GameStop for a whopping $150, but now, after being deemed a health hazard, it's being recalled.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission points out that mould can build up on a fabric inside the Chronicle-made helmet, potentially causing health issues. Generally speaking, a small amount of mould usually isn't a problem for most people, but being exposed to it can be particularly nasty if you have a weakened immune system, or if you suffer from respiratory damage or allergies.
The bottom line is that if your helmet's got mould growing in it, you really shouldn't be wearing it, regardless of how healthy you are. According to the Commission, 20,000 of these things were made, and buyers are asked to return the product to GameStop and get a refund.
What do you make of this? Please try to avoid mould whenever possible in the comments section below.

After reading this advice, I took mine off and within minutes I was stung in the eye by a radscorpion. Thanks a lot, United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
How can a company like this still exist? There must be an awful lot of stupid buyers enabling it to exist. Every single thing they produce is a steaming turd plagued with problems.
Mould. The only community in Fallout 76 that's growing!
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy @Gremio108 Okay, I think you both have to win Comment of the Week.
'...Helmet Heath Hazard'
I'll buy one, turn it upside down and use it as a flower pot.
Thanks Bethesda! 👍
In all fairness they didn’t make these helmets. They went through a factory in China just like everyone else. I doubt the factory gave them the mold option and they went with it.
Wow, it won't stop. No matter what, bad things about this game won't stop popping up in the news. I've seen such a long-term disaster before. It's truly astounding. This almost deserves an award.
Ah life imitating art. Or something something. Dammit, why am I not comment of the week?
@LN78 I work at a London estate agents and I work my a$$ off, thank you very much
@ShogunRok I don't know if it's a typo, but isn't it spelled mold? Or is mold another word were a U is added in/removed like colour and rumor?
I once had a mouldy helmet. Turns out I wasn't washing it properly
@Tasuki Yeah, 'mold' is the US spelling, 'mould' is the UK spelling.
@kyleforrester87 This actually explains a lot Kyle
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy
To be fair to bethesda, the game setting is in wasteland full of toxic, of course the equipment is toxic too lol.
@LN78 Ah whatever, I couldn't be bothered to read your full comment. Details ain't my problem. (For what it's worth, I'm not on the sales side, and while I can confidently say with years of experience that we genuinely don't get the appreciation we regularly deserve for how hard we work - who does right -... young lettings negotiators can be a bloody nightmare.)
@ShogunRok Wind your neck in!
They say you should never wear old World War II gas mark because the materials inside them have deteriorated and actually contaminate the air that passes through them. The issue isn’t unique to Bethesda's products although it’s obviously happened a lot faster in this case.
@ShogunRok Ah ok learn something new everyday 😆
@KALofKRYPTON I cant believe other comments were before this!!! Mouldy helmet = sad times!!
Todd Howard is a helmet.
This just has “potential tragedy” written all over it. Some dedicated 76 player who hasn’t read the news about the helmet is going to be wearing the thing while playing, and succumb to respiratory illness in the midst of imagining how much better the wasteland will be when the NPC update finally arrives.
So it has the same quality as the game
@ShogunRok @Tasuki
The English love their vowels!
Seriously though, people are actually wearing these? And enough to cause moisture buildup? Ew.
It's really really sad how far this series has fallen.
F
To be fair, the helmet is not a real helmet and you're not supposed to wear it. I've bought a first world war gas mask but the filter is made of asbestos (at the time, they did it like that..so most of them are made of asbestos), which causes cancer.. So you're not supposed to wear it but no one says anything... And it's a real mask..
Edit:
Also in the USA, no problems with guns. But a decorative helmet is dangerous..
