No Man's Sky's next big update, titled Beyond, will arrive on PS4 in just a few short weeks on 14th August. It also brings with it one of the community's biggest requests - PlayStation VR support.
The patch, free for all players, is said to be three huge updates rolled into one large content offering at once that is a mix of features the team at Hello Games have dreamt of as well as a reaction to how the community took to the previous NEXT update.
This Beyond update will contain the newly expanded online experience, described as "a radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together." Alongside that, PSVR support allows you to experience the entire game through Sony's virtual reality headset.
Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below. Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control. Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your PS VR peers.
Sean Murray signs off by committing to even more free updates for No Man's Sky players after Beyond, with more details on the upcoming patch to come before release. Will you hop back into the space explorer when this update rolls around? Scan the planets in the comments below.

Hopefully it plays well in VR, I just want DS4 support.
I feel a repurchase is incoming 👍
I guess I should get this reinstalled.
Hello Games are ridiculous...patch after patch of quality that puts other devs to shame. Can't wait for this one. Also an excellent excuse to dust off the VR which admittedly has become a bit of an underused gimmick (in my house now anyway).
I've been waiting for this! I hope the 3rd part of the update isnt just "software stability" tho.
It's really amazing how much closer this game is to the original vision now. I need to pick it back up again. Just too many games...
I really enjoyed NMS at launch. I played it in tranquility for hours. I think I’ll dive back in. I’ll give the VR a go, but I want to see how much it’s changed since launch.
Time to throw the game back in the console for the VR mode.
I haven't touched the game since launch. Still love the seamless transition from a planet's atmosphere to space. One of the things I wish every space game had lol.
Will definitely be giving the PSVR mode a try.
Oooooooooohhhhhhhhh! Been waiting for this forever! YEESSS. I've never played NMS but this is a day one purchase for me for sure. Pumped to see what it's all about now that it's a perfected version and explore the universe with my friends in VR! What a time to live in for gaming.
Oh boy time to put on those VR goggles and explore the universe. Lush!
This game soon deserves a new review?
@Deadlyblack Wow since launch? You will be in for some big surprises 😁
i'll tell you what, they've done a sterling job supporting this title since launch after the initial deserved criticism. (not death threats before anyone has a pop)
Good on them.
@3Above Definitely looking forward to seeing everything new from all of the updates. Especially in VR lol.
Play the whole game in VR wow i thought it was just 3 vr worlds.
The whole game wow just wow a lot like REZ i feel No Man's Sky was made for VR to feels the real whole game.
Free update for people that have the game as well free wow simply amazing.
@lacerz You'll be amazed mate, the general gameplay loop is the same but everything around is so different. The visuals have improved, more gameplay options and well more everything.
@Sinton
It does sound like a very different game now, a re-review is a good shout I think.
Had to send my VR in to Sony for repair today, hope I get it back in time for this update 🙏.
I love it when developers listen to the game playing community, and try to make their wishes come true! I don't own No Mans Sky, but I've been following it with interest, as I have a psvr! I will definately be making a purchase, as I think helping support a developer that actually listens to the community is a must! Well done Hello Games! Awesome job 👍
@LN78 I’m exactly the same.
@3MonthBeef I wonder the same thing. Are they making any money off this game? I was trying to resell my copy a year or more ago and it was only worth a couple bucks on the second hand market. Demand was really low apparently. Surely no one is buying new copies of this anymore.
That said, props to Hello Games for their efforts.
A new big update, a new big disappointment after spending few hours with it. As a sci-fi lover I thought NMS would be a dream, but the idea of an infinite universe clearly doesn't work once you realize the pattern it follows it's based on very few elements. I'd prefer to explore a "small" solar system with a dozen of planets really interesting and surprising.
Back when I was following the development of NMS, I had a feeling it would one day be VR supported. Now that day is just around the corner! Reinstalled NMS to my PS4 and looking forward to this - I'm sure it's going to be amazing in VR!
Wow, that trailer is amazing lol
This might be the best vr game ever made if it delivers on promise
@LieutenantFatman @Sinton I went back to look at the launch review and other than the complaints about crashes and bugs, the general content of PushSquare's review seems to have held up ok. They didn't drink the haterade and take the hype train off the rails into Outrageville.
Obviously it would be nice to get a re-review at some point, but when? I mean, someone seems to mention it after every big update, then Hello Games plans ANOTHER big update and drops even more content. So like...when's the best time to re-review? When it's done? It has to be done sometime right?
NMS is such a weird case study. It's the exception that proves Miyamoto's famous quote, "A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever." It's a perpetual work in progress...but it's not an MMO or a MTX puppy mill. It continues to defy all the usual ways in which the video game industry operates.
I've been thinking this may well turn out to be the first real kill VR game that truly sells HMDs itself. Will know soon enough but for me PSVR is just to low grade and tracking to poor. Its a shame as PS has some good content, I got rid of my Vive some time ago and now I'm to waiting for my spot on the Valve index waiting list to ship. So it will be a while past the 14th I expect before I get to try for myself.
