GreedFall has been hanging around for a couple of years now, but it's never quite gotten the attention that it potentially deserves. The next title from French developer Spiders, it's described as a deep action role-playing game set in an intricate and rather unique gritty fantasy world. It's due to release later this year, on the 10th September.
Now here's the thing: Spiders doesn't have the best track record. Previous PlayStation 4 projects include Bound by Flame and The Technomancer -- two RPGs that had interesting concepts at their core and some cool ideas, but lacked the overall quality needed to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the giants of the genre. Spiders is only a small team, after all, and we doubt that the developer has a huge budget to work with.
But GreedFall could be the studio's breakout hit. While we still need to actually get our hands on the game to form a complete opinion, the more we see of it, the more we're starting to think that GreedFall could actually be pretty good. Don't get us wrong, we're not expecting the second coming of The Witcher 3, but if you're a fan of RPGs, then we reckon it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.
What have you made of GreedFall so far? Are you hyped? Cautiously optimistic? Be wary of ancient beasts in the comments section below.
dmx don't be greedy give it to the needy. 🐕.yes this game could be the one of the surprise hit this year.word up son
i'm actually really interested in this one so yeah i'm going to keep an eye on it
Sony needs to buy this studio asap! They should also buy Remedy!
This is definitely on my radar. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.
It looks nice, but their other games are quite bad. Lets hope it's a sleeper hit, I like the looks.
Spiders games have very stiff facial animations that really put me off...
Maybe I've been spoilt by some games this gen...
Will definitely dip into this, although not at launch...
It looks interesting but I will wait to see the consensus first.
Colour me interested!! Would be good to see these guys with a bigger budget/team...
Spider studio makes one of the most underrated beautiful soundtracks!
It starts at 20 seconds.
Looks interesting to me. I hope Spiders can deliver.
I wouldn't rule it out either. Focus Interactive must be quite well of financially at the moment because of Farming Simulator's recent success. And french developers do tend to make quite good games in the more "arty/historical" genres if they are given a decent budget.
Just think Dark Works' Alone in the Dark game ("The New Nightmare"), Arkane Studios' Dishonered, Dontnod's Remember Me (ok not so historically, but definitely "arty") as the best examples.
