Just how big was The Witcher III: Wild Hunt for CD Projekt RED? Well, current data from the Polish developer pegs the epic open worlder at over 20 million units – that’s more than half the entire series’ lifetime sales to date. Of course, the statistic takes into account the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the title – and the figure will surely be boosted by the impending Nintendo Switch edition as well.
To put things into perspective, the last sales figure attributed to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – one of the biggest and most re-released titles of all-time – put it at 30 million units. That was back in 2016. It’s still a long way off Grand Theft Auto V, which was estimated to be at around 85 million units back at the tail-end of 2017, but it’s a staggering result nonetheless. We have a sneaking suspicion that Cyberpunk 2077 may do even better, too.

There is no way whatsoever they are done with this series. Bring on a Ciri game.
@Splat I'm still hopeful of a Ciri cameo in Cyberpunk.
The Witcher 3 is definitely one of the very best games this generation and is a level up on any RPG I've played in its storytelling and your influence on it.
The sales will rocket with switch launch. The savvy demographic of gamers on the switch will love this fantastic game. To be able to play this masterpiece on the go will be great.
Totally deserved - one of the best games this generation (so far) for me and worth purchasing twice (Xbox and PS4).
Probably my favourite game of all time. I sincerely hope they give the first game the remake treatment and remaster the second because I’m betting a lot of people haven’t played them. A trilogy box set for next gen would be amazing.
I have a feeling that the unannounced game they are supposedly releasing by 2021 is based on the Witcher universe and is why it will be quicker to make.
@carlos82 I reckon there'll be some kind of easter egg for Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077. She basically described the world to Geralt in The Witcher 3 when telling him about the worlds she'd seen.
Any of the Ninty mob who haven't played this yet are in for a treat. I must warn you though, it hasn't got Mario or Zelda in it so don't be too disappointed.
bought it, but didn't like it. just wasn't for me. the aesthetic of cyberpunk 2077 is more appealing to me, but still not seen any gameplay.. and if it's another 100+ hr game, i find that a bit of a turn-off to be honest.
@leucocyte It will without a doubt be a 100+ hours kinda game. Also, there is a good 50 minutes worth of gameplay on YouTube.
wow gta 5 at 85 millions ➕.thats beyond legendary status.no other games series sell more copies than gta.if call of duty or any other games releasing the same day you better delay that game. haha.word up son
Came to this game really late on and boy did it drag me in. Sinking 100plus hours into it (Rare for me), it instantly jumped to my 2nd fav game of all time! Deserves all the plaudits and sales it gets.
Bought the GOTY edition 2 years ago and I've still not started it, because I know it's a game I need to play every night but I can't because of lack of time as it is. I come to a point where I go right let's start it then I end up continuing a different back log game
@ApostateMage I’m going to pick this up on the Switch even though it’ll cost more. I never got around to playing it on my PlayStation - with my kids being around and I’m getting too old to stay up late. So having it portable will be nice.
@ApostateMage No need to be condescending..
Skyrim seems suspiciously low for how ouch influence it had on gaming, and all the re-releases at the same tome though, ES6 could smash that if it turns out as good as Skyrim was for the time.
@playstation1995 GTAV&RDR2 are together my #1 games this gen. #2 Witcher3&Fallout4 #3 going is anything, so many great games this gen. It's like this is the gen that had the best games ever!
@Jaz007 30mil back in 2016. We have had a number of releases on differing platforms since. PS4 and PSVR to name 2. As an estimate I would say 36 million.
That's an awful lot.
@TheArt fallout 4 is a great game I'm still playing that game now.one of the best games ever.word up son
@playstation1995 @TheArt Fallout 4 was a massive misstep. The poor technical performance, lack of side activities, removal of choice, glitches, rubbish settlement building, awful AI and dreadful story reject it from the upper echelons of best game chatter.
Spiderman, HZD, Astrobot, God of War, Persona 5, The Last of Us and Yakuza Zero are all easily better. I would even argue that Fallout 3 is a better game.
@themcnoisy I didn't even get Fallout4 day one because 2015 was a crazy year; Witcher3, Bloodborne, MGSV and then F4. People were busy showering praises on overrated MGSV they slept on F4. Honestly I hated F4 after my first playthrough and was in a hurry to sell but I decided to give it a second chance and that's when I fell in love. It would be too many paragraphs if I have to explain why Fallout4 has that FUN factor way more than all those games you mentioned except I haven't played Astrobot, Spiderman and Yakuza.
Best game ever.
I liked Fallout 4 and even played it twice for the platinum. I liked that the player character was voiced. Yes, they had much fewer dialogue choices because of this but I'm one who'd prefer a fully voiced protagonist with a limited dialogue wheel than a mute with a longer list of dialogue choices. Being voiced gives them a lot more character, in my opinion.
