We now know that the PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games, thanks to this exclusive report from Wired, but what about physical copies specifically? Will PS5 be able to read discs? Good news: it'll support physical media as well as digital.
"For example, the next-gen console will still accept physical media; it won’t be a download-only machine," reads the report. This means the PS5 will offer both boxed games and digital games, just like PS4. Again, because PS5 is going to be backwards compatible, it needed to be able to read PS4 discs at least, but it's nice to have confirmation.

BC and disc drive is all i needed from the ps5!
Disc's all the way hopefully it will boot ps4 discs and not download the game from the store ( Like xbox backwards compatible xbox 360 / og ).
But knowing how well the ps4 has done they will do it right.
Sweet. I made the decision that if the next PS5 only played PS5 games I wasn't gonna jump on it right away as I have a huge backlog. But now it's got a disc drive, B/C and plays PSVR I'm gonna upgrade day one and sell my PS4 pro!

there was zero chance of me buying one without a disc drive. now, just need confirmed that the controller will have symmetrical stick layout (or be compatible with dualshock 4s).

Well I only buy physical media so this is great!
Only on some rare occasions I would consider digital like if the game is exclusively digital and I really want it!

I probably won't buy day 1 again, just because the first year of PS4 was basically a drought for me personally, but I'll definitely get after the first price drop. I want to be a bit smarter about buying this gen.
I really thought Sony would be progressive with its next console regarding the disc drive I guess not. I hope atleast sony will give the option of not having a disc drive.

Either way this is great news, hopefully we can just play the PS4 games straight from their discs without having to download anything extra or the digital copies.
