3D Realms is set to go back to where it all began with Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, a hardcore first-person shooter developed using the original Quake engine and tech. That's right, the PS4 is getting a brand new game based on technology from 1996, and it looks the part too in the trailer above.
Taking up the role of the Outlander, you'll slay demons, skeletons, and monsters to a thumping metal soundtrack alongside a whole host of boisterous weapons. The labyrinthine levels are sure to pose a significant challenge with the tagline of "You will not survive" on hand to remind you that this one won't be for the faint-hearted. A playable portion is due to come to the PC later this summer, while a PS4 version will hit next year in 2020.

Cool project!
Ooh i like the look of this ! i prefer old school shooters to most modern day ones, mainly due to them not using iron-sights and just being more about fun then realism.
Oh my...
Well isn't this a pleasant surprise?!
Hopefully it does well, then the floodgates of re-releases of old FPS games will commence!
Reminds my of the mighty Heretic game from 1994!!! Yep I'm that old.
@stupidget I played the shareware version of Heretic soooo much. I was always a Doom guy (pun totally intended) but Heretic was really nice and different at the time.
All in all, this era was awesome and this is unexpected but kind of cool.
@ToniK yeah, it was the shareware version I had. I was a CAD operator at the time and had a Compaq 486 with 16mb of memory. Yes kids, that’s 16MB not 16GB!!!!🤣🤣. Every time my boss walked in the room I’d turn the brightness down on my screen and say I was rebooting the pc because it had crashed. Simple PC days.
@ToniK @stupidget I can see Heretic in the trailer, but it mostly made me think of Shadow Warrior.
I still have a Compaq 486 stored away. And upgrading from 4 to 16MB set me back $175. I think the 486 CPU upgrade from SX to DX was $200.
100 percent into this
Looks great. FPS games were much more fun 20+ years ago. There's been a few old-school FPS games released in recent years, similar to Wrath, but nothing as ambitious as this I think (to my knowledge).
@stupidget hehe, lucky you... I had an XT which could not run even Wolfenstein, then upgraded to a 386 with 2MB , then 4MB and I could run doom about launch day, but of course had to shrink the screen and/or apply the mighty F5 blur ; ) . A couple of months ago I've read the "Doom engine black book" (or something like that ) , what a nice read about how that great game was made.
Looks cool, nice to see consoles are getting games like this.
This better be vr compatible. Also heretic was great!! 😄
@MattSilverado @ToniK @RogerRoger
I think I can still remember some of the edits you needed to make to the autoexec.bat and Config.sys files to increase memory, get your soundblaster to work and go knows how many other things just to get a game to work
@stupidget of course, like buffers=40 , stack=9,256 and that stuff : )
Ha ha, yeah, stuff like that. Brilliant.
Old school fps games are so much fun, I used to play things like this all the time yet played so few in the last 15 years or so as they all turned into military shooters. I still play DOOM on a regular basis plus many mods and Duke Nukem so this is right up my street
