Demon's Souls PS4 PlayStation 4 1

There’s been strong speculation for some time that Sony is working on some kind of Demon’s Souls remake or remaster, although nothing’s ever been made official. That said, it sounds like original director and current FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki is not opposed to the idea – as long as another studio were to do the heavy lifting.

Speaking with Game Informer, the industry icon explained that he’s proud of his work on the PlayStation 3 exclusive, but he prefers to look forward. “If it was a studio that really loved the original work and really put their heart and soul into realising it again, then that’s something I would enjoy,” he said.

He continued: “Thinking about the idea of a remaster gives me kind of butterflies in my stomach and makes me a little nervous, so it’s complicated. But I understand there are many users and many players and fans out there who really love Demon’s, so if that’s something they could accomplish with a studio that loved the work, then yeah, I’d be okay with that.”

The theory is that Bluepoint, the team behind last year’s incredible Shadow of the Colossus remake, may be turning its attention to Demon’s Souls next – although it’s all just conjecture and forum hearsay at this stage. It did post a job listing for a character artist who would be required to create armour and weapon assets, but that could mean anything, couldn’t it?
