After months of fan concern over Fallout 76 and its approach to player versus player combat, it seems as though Bethesda has failed to really get one important detail across: you can disable player versus player combat in the settings menu.
A small detail in Eurogamer's preview of the game, the publication writes: "The game disables PvP till you reach level 5, so there's plenty of time to get to grips with all this and make inroads on a few quests before you have to worry about other players, and even then, you're free to switch it off again in the settings." We thought it was well worth bringing attention to, because the incorporation of a player versus player system has been a major sticking point for many.
However, it's unclear whether disabling this will prevent other players from damaging you, or whether it just stops you from attacking other players by mistake. It's stuff like this that we really wish Bethesda would just clarify.

Why can't Bethesda just give us a clear answer? Why do we have to trawl through previews to find vital information?
I know so many people who would love to know that you can switch PvP off entirely. You'd think it would be a big deal.
@ShogunRok now that it's clear you can turn it off, my first question is "Well, why bother even incorporating the online element at all?"
If you turn it off what's the point of this game it's just going be Fallout 4 with co op added in at that point.
"Bethesda isn't being as helpful as we want them to be."
@AhabSpampurse
Some people want to play with others but do not want PvP. Take Ark for example some play PvP servers others choose to play none PvE only. They could just seperate servers based on whether you want to play PvP or PvE that would have probably been more simple and stopped a lot of this confusion.
Is this server based? Because it it could be abused and mess up the game otherwise. Someone could turn it off until they decide to attack someone. I’m assuming it won’t work mid-fight. It also just messes up the eco-system if it’s not server based.
@ShogunRok Because they have no idea and they are going with the flow, seeing people's response and tweaking the PvP along the way.
Pretty sure this was mentioned before
They’ll work it out as they go along. Remember elder scrolls online was a complete mess when it released
Always pvp off i only go on to check some games out. Pay to win peeps like to annoy the level grind peeps or is it just me.
Good to hear getting this on xboxone
Why not simply have a GTA mentality . So if someone starts griefing they get out in a server with other griefers they can go at eachother not exactly hard to figure out .
