Spelunky 2 was teased all the way back at Paris Games Week last year, and we haven't heard a peep about it since. Out of seemingly nowhere, the PlayStation Blog has posted a brand new trailer, showing off gameplay of the sequel for the first time, and it's looking pretty good.

Aside from a subtle but noticeable facelift, it looks like Spelunky 2 is throwing a lot of new ideas into the mix. Online multiplayer lets up to four adventurers explore together, and it looks like the environments will be wildly different this time around. Not only are there new enemies and hazards on show - including dynamic liquids - but each level will have a second layer which you can enter to discover secrets and hidden areas.

We now also know that the game will be out next year, so there's still a little while before we'll be able to get our hands on it. At this early stage though, it shows a lot of promise, and of course, it has a lot to live up to. Are you excited for Spelunky 2? Drop a rope and clamber down into the comments below.
