Days Gone PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Days Gone is undoubtedly a looker, but on a console with titles like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, it’s perhaps not the prettiest product in the pipeline. Of course, there’s much more going on behind-the-scenes in Sony Bend’s open world apocalypse, and speaking as part of Game Informer’s month-long coverage, creative director John Garvin has revealed that the title is pushing the PlayStation 4 hard.

“We’re definitely pushing the PS4 to its limits,” he said. “What we really want to do is create something that is best in class for the kind of game that we’re making, that’s super important to us.” The key technical challenge appears to be the release's emergent world, which means that virtually anything can happen at any time. This means that you could get mobbed by hordes of Freakers – or caught out in the wilderness without gas. It’s all down to the systems to decide.

To be fair, it’s also a handsome game. Even in its alpha state, the release really has its moments, and we’re sure that the developer will be polishing the product up immensely before its ready early next year. Are you impressed by what you’ve seen of Days Gone thus far? Do you believe it’s genuinely pushing the PS4 – or is that all marketing chatter?
