We’re not sure whether it was the case in other countries, but Lara Croft was an absolute superstar in the UK throughout the latter half of the 90s. The character adorned the cover of magazines, frequently topped the video game charts, and was also chosen as the “face” of Lucozade. The advertisement embedded below takes us back a bit:

Now, the sugary soft drink has revived its partnership with the athletic Tomb Raider, launching a new commercial ahead of the release of the upcoming Alicia Vikander movie. We guess it’s supposed to riff on the whole Honest Trailers thing, but it’s not as good as the old Lucozade ads. Nevertheless, this is getting our nostalgia knickers in a bit of a twist.

The new Tomb Raider movie’s due out on 15th March, with Square Enix set to announce video game sequel Shadow of the Tomb Raider at some point this year. We hope both are more agreeable than the taste of Lucozade, which can best be described as a mix of lemonade and a sherbet dip. In a word: disgusting.
